A couple of the doctoral programs I am investigating require a statistics course as a pre-requisite. I wormed my way around through two Master's programs and never took one, my math background being algebra and geometry in HS. Can anyone recommend a stats course (grad level) that would meet these needs? I'll get a tutor if I have to, however I need to demonstrate completion with at least a B. Thanks
U of Tennessee has a Grad certificate in Applied Stats. You will need to see if they will allow you to take only one course. See: http://www.outreach.utk.edu/cyberstats/Default.htm Otherwise check this site under statistics for the Masters level programs and check if they will allow registration for one course: http://distance.gradschools.com/default.html#search Best of luck-----Jim
You can also try Excelsior's DistanceLearn database to search for graduate statistics classes, and also filter for things like cost: http://distancelearn.excelsior.edu/
Coloradao State has several statisics courses by DL to inludea a Masters and a Certificate program. Having taken one of the courses and just starting the second (required for the Industrial Engineering program) I can clue you they are not easy, fast, or low cost. CSU Domingues Hills has some at al ower unit cost.
I would recommend a search of the Telecampus database. Decent universities offering DL graduate statistics courses in the US include Rochester Institute of Technology and Central Connecticut State University. Australian universities offering DL graduate statistics courses include University of Newcastle, Macquarie, Monash, Charles Sturt.
Old Hoosier - if they'll take it, you may want to take a business school stats class as opposed to one offered by a math/statitics department. The difference can be significant. I teach a fairly non-threatening stats class at Baker College that may meet your need. The course number is BUS678. Regards - Andy
I don't know what the requirements are at the schools to which you have applied, but from my experience having taken graduate styx in math, business, and psychology I would suggest you try to get by in the following order: Styx for psychology Styx for business and as Andy said, save Styx for math as a last alternativie ---- this department really believes there is a use styx. And, remember, as a great statistician said ---- 89.4 % of all styx is made up. Take care,
Try Baker, you can take it online - not too $$$, another one is UOP @ around 500 per unit Pizza - please
Here's another one: There are 3 types of lies, 1> Little fibs 2> Bold-faced lies 3> Statistics Best Regards, Bill
Thanks Thanks to everyone who responded to this post. I did a lot of searching on the recommendations and came up with several leads that require additional investigation. Hope I can return the favor with other posts. Tom Moore
