I sent all my material directly to Mr. Craparo. After probably twenty of more phone messages I finally received a return call. During this call Mr. Craparo described his role with Unisa and advised me to send certain documents to him – which I did – and that he would forward said documents to the appropriate person at Unisa. He went on to inform me that he would walk me through the admissions process. I later emailed the Chairman of the Industrial Psychology program who informed me that a detailed proposal was required and even emailed me (via) attachment a guideline document describing the requirements of thesis proposals. I have shared the Unisa proposal requirement document with other members of this NG. If I remember correctly I sent a copy to Rich, Russell and at least one more person whose name I do not recall.

Mr. Carparo never informed me of any such guidelines and never requested any report, which would have even vaguely resembled a proposal according to the guidelines received from Unisa. In fact, related to this requirement, Mr. Carparo only informed me to write a summary of my research idea, never emphasising anything more than a VERY informal docuement. I understood him to state that he'd present the idea to the appropriate person(s) and he'd get back with me -- which of course he never did.

I contacted the registrar’s office at Unisa and no one in the office even knew who Mr. Craparo was. According to this office none of my application materials ever made it to South Africa.
At this point, I became so distraught with the situation that I requested Mr. Craparo return all of my documents. I became fearful that Mr. Craparo was running some sort of scam to accumulate personal data from innocent applicants.

To Mr. Craparo’s credit he immediately responded to my request and returned what appeared to be all the materials I had sent to him.

This experience coupled with having heard other horror stories prompted me to abandon the Unisa idea.

    Thanks Wes,

I was just curious whether you decided to submit your application directly to UNISA.

My own registration, for a UNISA undergraduate program, was relatively effortless.

Please note that only a departmental executive officer of the Unisa Faculty can invite an individual to submit a proposal. This is allowed only after an individual has been approved by the Registrar (Academic) to receive such an offer.

In the case stated, to my knowledge, the approval of the Registrar never came so if Mr. Cox was successful in working directly with a member of the faculty, I was not aware. I am not allowed to invite proposals. That is the rule set by the university.

With regard to the Registrar's office not knowing me, I have no idea who he talked to. That individual was incorrect. The univeresity has over 3000 employees.

I apologized to Mr. Cox for any delay he perceived. I was working within guidelines.

Others here have registered through me and I offered apologies elsewhere here in general for bad perceptions. By the way, it was John Bear, and several others, who encouraged me to begin posting regularly here and so I have...

    Regards,
    John

How do credential agencies view the DBL? I would assume it would be considered a DBA. What about the DComm and DAdmin?

If you have corrected the problem, great!

My experience however, was so negative that I can't in good faith recommend that anyone utilize your services.

In fairness to you, this experience did occur about 3.5 - 4.0 years ago, so maybe you've changed?
