I'm not quite certain I'll travel to the US, so London remains a possibility too. So Will, please, keep us posted about your progress. If you really go to London to do some testing, give us some of your impressions.

See new thread how to set up a test center

No news from London. I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever be able to take my tests there.
Meantime having to review past material which interferes with my efforts at learning new stuff.
Noone said it would be easy!

Anyhow, I have received a reply from CLEP on how to set up a test center, which sounds very easy. Please see new thread...

That's "poractive" inhibition, Will. It'll be on your CLEP Pysch exam, later.

I have the same problems as you have because I live in Denmark. I hope that the local business school will let me take the Dantes tests there but I face the same problem with the CLEP tests as you do.
The link you offered gives the impression that it is quite easy technically to set up a CLEP test center. But I guess that the college board must officially recognize the center. Have you found out the procedure for that? And does the test center have to pay an annual fee to be a test center?

    Regards,

    Morten

    Morten, about CLEP

    Morten,
No, there is no cost in setting up a test center, according to CLEP.
Any recognized university, or local american university would probably qualify.
All you need is to find any of those who are willing to go through the small trouble of coordinating test dates, setting up the software, etc.
But sometimes I wonder if many universities wouldn't see Clep exams as competing with their tuitition business?

PS: I am still waiting to hear from the London test center. All I ask is that they give me a date in which they can give me two tests one after the other as from 0930 AM, which is their opening hour (because I want to be able to catch the flight back to Madrid that same day).
I wish they'd realize what a mental and financial effort it is for some of us having to go through all of this and travel all the way to a foreign country to take the test!!!

You may have a point about the competition. However, the business school in Denmark where I am pursuing a degree at present always claim that they are sooo international. I will try and use that against them, first with the Dantes tests (since they require almost nothing from the school) and then the CLEP when they have gotten used to the idea of testing.

    Regards,

    Morten

Might have a CLEP site in Madrid!

Looks like one of the Madrid American universities is working on setting up a CLEP testing site here.
I will start a new thread announcing it once it happens.
Will any of you be interested in trvelling to Madrid to take your CLEP tests instead of London?

That is possible. But depende on whether they will allow more than one test per day and if I can persuade the local business school to do the same.

Well done, Will! I'm trying to do the same with a test center here in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where I currently live. I hope to be successful, but otherwise Madrid would be a handly solution for me, since I travel to Europe at least twice a year, and Iberia airlines makes mandatory stop-overs in Madrid.
    Let us posted.
    Thanks,

    Giancarlo

    Cheap! Independant study.

Have you tried the Independant study classes at University of Arkansas? Thier correspondence courses are really cheap. $65.00 a credit hour (out of state) and you rent your books from them. An entire course is less than $300.00.

    Here's the link

    Hi Will,

How's it going? Did you take your tests in London? Could you get the CLEP test center set up in Madrid?

    Cheers

    Madrid Clep Testing center update

Mark, thanks for the info about the correspondence course which I have filed just in case.

Regarding the test center in Madrid, unfortunately i still haven't heard from Syracuse university here. The last message i got was that they were waiting to receive the materials, which CLEP in US confirmed to me they had sent, but that was some weeks ago.

This week I will definitively call by phone to see what's happening because I am not getting any reply by email.

Will keep everyone posted once I have more news. Regards

No Clep in Madrid for now

CLEP in MADRID: Contacted Syracuse university today here in Madrid. The director seems to be too busy now to set up things, although he does have the intention of setting up the Clep center. But for now the earliest would be around September this year.

Back to square one for me!!!

CLEP in LONDON: Contacted MST in London again and they have sent me a schedule of test dates:

    Quote
Thank you for your enquiry into taking a Clep exam at our centre. We will be running Clep exams on the following dates as long as we have a minimum of 3 participants, with two sittings 10.30am – 12.30am and 1.00pm – 3.00pm on:

    Wednesday 26th March
    Wednesday 30th April
    Wednesday 14th May
    Wednesday 18th June
    Wednesday 23rd July

The Clep Exam costs $50 per exam and can be paid in the following ways:
    1. Credit card
    2. Bankers draft made out to Clep
    3. Dollar check made payable to Clep

Please can you fill out the registration form and enclose a English check or a bankers draft for £20.00 per exam, payable to MST College (this is non refundable). Once we have received this we will assign you a date to sit your CLEP exams.

I am willing at this point to go to London, in spite of all the expenses, at least to take 2 exams that I hate having to review all the time so as not to forget (macro and microeconomics). But, how can I make any travel arrangements with all these open clauses?, ie:

"as long as we have a minimum of 3 participants..."

"one we have received this we will assign you a date to sit your Clep exams..."

I am half anglosaxon too, and understand the mentality, but how can I get MST to be a bit more flexible and have them understand that if I do go to London I need to know well in advance so as to arrange the best possible (cheapest) flights and hotel arrangements?. I cannot commit to take the exam whenever they "assign", nor subject to there being "3 participants". I need to know if they can do a certain date and time, and then I can check flights and accomodations and confirm.

Does anybody here know anyone in MST that could act as liason for me because I just can't manage to arrange things properly from here?

    ------------------------

Independent study at Univ of Arkansas:
Thanlks for the info but most subjects have 3 exams. Having to arrange and pay a protor here in Spain for 3 exams would make things really expensive and complicated so it's not a practicable solution for me.

Thanks all, let me know if anyone ahs any other news.

    London next week?

    Falkenberg,
I have replied in private messages and also sent you a diect email with info.

If you contact MST and see any chances of getting a firm confirmation of the 14th , I would try to make arrangements. But only within this week because I do need a few days at least to try to get a flight and accomodation.

Ryan Air probably doesnt operate Madrid-London. The cheapest for me is EASYJET.

    London Calling

Well, finally I'm off to London, to get tested for Clep Macro and microeconomics.

If I pass, I will let you all know all the details. If you don't hear from me it's because I'm too depressed becasue I failed...

I'll see you in London -

Is there anybody who is looking for a CLEP exam centre in Europre? Maybe we can convince MST college to offer a more flexible exam schedule.

If you are interested, please contact me: [email protected]

    CLEP in MST COLLEGE OK

    Well...

Yesterday morning I finally made it to MST COLLEGE for the first time and took my two Clep exams, Micro and Macroeconomics, which I have passed with a score of 69 each (that is 69 correct replies out of 80 questions). :) :D

I was well received at MST College and the Test administrator turned out to be a nice and friendly woman who even catered for my 15 minute late arrival for the exams.

It's easy to get to by subway at Hendon Central Station.

I have already applied to see if she can give me two more tests on the 18th of June. So if any of you interested, please contact her asap so as to make sure she has the 3 minimum people so as to give the exam on that date.

If anybody needs any directions, advise, etc, just let me know.

But I am starting a new thread, because I know that , at least I, hate long threads when I am new to it; one has to read a lot of useless info to find the real useful stuff.

Thanks for everyones support so far. Also special thanks to that ANONYMOUS person or entity which I know answered my plea for help in getting MST to be a bit more flexible.

    Will Makeit
