    The sole source in this article is a "report" written by some consultants with a vested interest in getting clicks from doomsday predictions.

    It looks like it's specifically to demonize 5G. Otherwise, they would have used "mobile network" or just "internet".

    It's not the first time that China has been accused of possible spying or espionage with its chips, but it is the first time that it sounds like it's pure fear-mongering instead of at least partial truths.

    I noticed that specific call out of 5G too. I wasn't sure why it was relevant but considered maybe there was something about the tech I didn't know.

    Heck, I am sure I am already being spied upon with all the smart tech I have. Cell phone included.

    Probably just because it's the newest and latest. Demonize the bandwagon everybody's on. No sense in trying to create fear with stuff that's getting obsolete and being abandoned.
