They're both bad people, but I don't agree with a permanent suspension for Kathy Griffin. Looks like she was just trolling and it could have been taken care of with a temporary ban.

I don't know what Ethan did to get banned, but you can probably pick from hundreds. He, like countless others, got away with some really awful behavior that no one on the other side of the political aisle would ever have been able to.

Sooo, how serious is he planning on taking this? Burry, who I admire, better start watching it with his Cassandra "impersonation"...

Elon Musk should do like a Squid Game of Red Light Green and change the rules from week to week, just like they did with COVID.

    COVID History
    1. Don't wear masks (Dr. Fauci)
    2. Wear masks (Dr. Fauci)
    3. Don't wear masks (CDC)
    4. Wear masks (Dr. Fauci)
    5. The COVID pandemic is over (Joe Biden)
    6. Today? (audience still must wear masks to protect the elites on the TV show, The View. Unreal)

Link to a book, movie, meme, or news story we don't like, well, too bad, you're banned.

Don't say the right narrative or can't keep up with the changing rules, well, too bad you're banned. Lol.

I don't have the same hate-on for Elon Musk that some people do, but I also think he's way overrated and that it's amusing to watch him basically set $44 billion on fire.

I can understand all that, Steve, no problems - but to me, the amusement factor is somehow marred. I get only a VERY short-term chuckle from seeing someone basically burn tons of money -- when you think of what that same amount of money COULD do.

Seeing billions being burned, to me, is kind of like watching a convoy of food trucks burn - or a medical supply depot being torched. Yes, it's Elon's money - and his investors' --- but I think anyone who burns money is an asshole. Sad wasters, all.

"Parody" is required to be in the display name and username (handle). People should have gotten a warning that the rules were going to change getting rid of the initial warning and going straight to a permanent ban. He's just being overly sensitive. I never expected him to be a champion for free speech, only a champion for offensive speech that doesn't insult him.

He's impulsive. His ego made him offer to buy Twitter, and he couldn't back out of the deal without it costing him. So, now he's taken out a huge loan with over $1 billion in annual interest, and Twitter is a company that does nothing but lose money. I also heard that his loan is counted as business debt for Twitter, which makes it even harder for them to be profitable.

If anyone can afford to burn 44 billion dollars it's Elon Musk. Elon is a rich jerk so I can't really feel sorry for him. I mean I'd rather see him waste his money on something else but he does seem to have luck in the past in his investments. The mess is just an amusing mess from my perspective. I have never tweeted so don't really care about the company. I heard many have suspended their ads on Twitter which is another amusing development.

Whatever happened to his promise that Trump would be reinstated on Twitter?
edit: On SNL the Twitter/Trump skit was hilarious.

I've been active on Mastodon for a long time, and we've just seen the biggest tsunami of new participants ever. I guess by spending all that money Elon Musk really did boost the popularity of a social network!

The fascinating thing is that if it is “real” money it isn’t being wasted, only transferred. If he is losing it than someone else is gaining it. Someone can “waste” money on a private jet wandering aimlessly around the globe but it is still employing many folks along the supply chain from manufacturing to fuel. Unless you’re arguing that you favor concentrated wealth for the potential of what can be done with it?

While this is true at this point in time, at least from the perspective that the 44 billion dollars went to the Twitter stock holders. There's also the possibility that the company eventually folds and the company assets purchased for the 44 billion dollars invested by Elon ends up just covering bankruptcy lawyers and paying off a (probably small) percentage of the company debts.

Yes. Very good point, Bill. @JBjunior That's the kind of thing I mean. If something you own becomes worthless - it's a loss to you. Never mind that the other guy got paid. It's so much money you no longer have - and can't get it back out. The wealth transfer chain stops with you. If Elon runs Twitter into the ground, there goes $44 Billion in wealth - a valuable asset destroyed. $44 billion he had and can't get back - or get anything for.

I'm put in mind of another event in which money WAS actually burned. Everybody here knows how I love the Blues - and the history that comes with that music. One day, back in the 50s, in Chicago - I think it was on the Chess Record Co. premises, two Blues Giants - two of my musical heroes, got into a heated argument - Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. They decided to settle the argument by seeing who could outlast the other in a contest - each would burn his own $100 bills one at a time until one man caved. A pile of money went up in smoke before someone caved. I think Muddy "won" - I'm not positive. These guys are my heroes - but not that day. That was just plain dumb. They both earned a lot more money - subsequently in their careers - but THAT money they burned? No, never. Gone. Same as if they'd burned guitars instead. They'd never get them back - and more than they did with the $100 bills.

You tell me how that wealth - that stack of ashes that was $100 bills - was transferred, JBjunior? My take: it wasn't. It was destroyed. No transfer to another owner.

But partly its our tax money, didn't Gov subsidized heavily some of the businesses of Mr MusK?
Musk's companies — Tesla Motors, SpaceX, and SolarCity — have received billions of dollars from government loans, contracts, tax credits, and subsidies.
According to LA Times investigation Musk's companies had received an estimated $4.9 billion in government support by 2015, and they've gotten more since.

I know that Tesla got lots of money from other car manufactures. I understand it's reduced very significantly right now. Here's how it worked though. There was a law that at least a certain percentage of cars sold had to be electric and hybrid. If this percentage wasn't meet then the car manufacture was subject to some big fines. For example, what General Motors did to avoid the fine was to buy electric "credits" from Tesla. For some early years of Tesla, Tesla was profitable because of credits they sold to other car manufacturers. I don't know whether or not that was included in the $4.9 billion. I suspect that it was.

Here's the LA Times article that you've apparently referenced.
    https://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-hy-musk-subsidies-20150531-story.html

More recent articles indicates it is much more than $5 billion dollars now. For example just SpaceX google search says,

"Musk's subsidies: Since 2012, SpaceX has received $5.6 million in federal and state subsidies and Tesla has received $2.5 million, according to data from Good Jobs First, a group that advocates against corporate subsidies.Dec 13, 2021"
