Given today's Supreme Court Ruling, I wonder - Is Nation-wide Constitutional Carry next?

I speculate here and can be wrong.

It seems like a "peaceful" summer starts. I listened to the new mayor of nyc yesterday, he will not follow the now new law of the land.

NYC will become the next Rochester (ny), Chicago, LA, etc. Now, the Red Flag state laws will be tested.

If I understood the NY mayor states he will not obey. Where is there Law and obedience to the Law??

Speaking as a lawyer, I think nationwide constitutional carry has been the law for some time now. I really don't understand how anyone could have thought NY's demand for justification to exercise a constitutional right (as that right now stands defined in this Supreme Court) would survive a challenge. This decision is really not that big of a deal.

New Mexico, by the way, has been a (state) constitutional open carry jurisdiction for fifty years. No permits, no training, no nuthin'. We are where I guess Texas wants to go. Concealed carry does require a permit and a class. I've never really gotten used to seeing citizens packing heat for no obvious reason but there it is.

I was sitting in a pho restaurant in my town in Arizona when a guy walked in with a pistol strapped to his thigh. It was a very strange feeling, and it made me feel less safe, not more.

It does tend to focus one's attention, doesn't it?

I have a friend that moved to Texas in part so that he could carry his gun around with him. It was his main complaint about California when he lived here. I think that I'd feel comfortable if I was with him when he was carrying. I would feel very uncomfortable and distracted if someone was carrying in public and I didn't know them. I think my initial reaction would be to cuss them out for being jerks. But, I would quickly suppress that idea to cuss them out and instead ignore them. Maybe when I'm 80 I'll be less inhibited? ;)

I would also feel less safe in such situation.
I'm more for consealed carry at the minimum but prefer locked in a box.

Virginia is also an 'Open Carry' State, and it's a 'Shall Issue' State. I am not the least bit bothered when I see people carrying openly. I do agree it's probably wiser to carry concealed. No need to announce you are armed.

Yes, Bill. You definitely will. I'm 79 and it kicked in a few years ago. 'S Wonderful! :)

Yabbut turning your back on an armed man isn't something lightly done.

No, these days it's not - particularly if he's a police officer.

Never really been overly concerned with people either legally or illegally carrying. Or, at least in normal day to day circumstances. Truly don’t understand open carrying though. It just seems strategically negligent.

I think law enforcement officer, park ranger, military or security etc open carrying serves purpose.

Sure. The sidearm is part of most law enforcement uniforms. But an ordinary citizen sporting a pistol on his hip? Well, my first thought is, "What's this about?"

Going about armed is inconvenient. A decent pistol is fairly heavy. It's bulky. You can't wear it into some establishments. People who carry open must therefore have some reason to do so and I don't know that their reason is a good one.

Having said all that I can't say that New Mexico's refusal to regulate open carry has resulted an unusual number of firearms deaths. I don’t think it has.

I'm not at all bothered by this either, although I see it very rarely, which I expect means that most people carry concealed. Well, or maybe it means I don't get out much.

Of course. Was only referring to civilians going armed. Particularly those who open carry versus legal conceal carry.

While this is certainly subjective, unless you need to carry a status (ex. custom 1911) pistol… most of the compact, carry designed pistols, are fairly light and easy to carry on a normal day to day basis. Er, at least once you find a cc method and holster that works with your body and wardrobe.
