Hi all. I decided to apply for the MBA program at the University of Louisiana - Lafayette, and was just accepted. There doesn't seem to be much information about the program on Degreeinfo, so I figured I'd start a thread to post my experience with the program as I go. I don't start until October, but might as well get a thread started with some initial observations.

I was originally going to do an Organizational Leadership program, but I think an MBA might be a good idea as well, so I decided to do this first. My boss strongly agreed with me that this is a good idea, so there is that too. I'm doing the "Sales Leadership" concentration.

The good: The entire cost for the program, including any necessary books, is $12,800 (proctoring fees for exams are the only thing not covered). The program takes 15 months to complete. This is one of the best values I've seen for an AACSB accredited MBA from a relatively good and well known school. Entry requirements if you have a good GPA are not bad (I have a 4.0 and was able to be admitted without having to do anything other than send my college transcripts). If your GPA is lower, they may require you to submit a GMAT, letters of recommendation, your resume, or a writing sample, based on where you land. I didn't want to take the GMAT, so the waiver for a high GPA was attractive to me as well.

The bad: Coming from Arizona State, I have to say that the student portal at UL is really archaic in comparison. It's hard to get it set up and the UI is really terrible. I'm also used to Canvas for classes, which I really like because it is simple to use. UL uses Moodle which, pardon my French, seems like a piece of shit. I'm currently taking the Online Student Orientation course, which is required, through it. They also use Outlook for the student email instead of Gmail, which is more difficult to use, but at least we get access to MS Office, which I prefer to Google Docs. Another negative is that you actually have to sign and return some paper forms for Advising; at ASU, everything was electronic.

Because I wasn't a business undergrad, I have to take some 1-credit pre-requisite courses. They are:
    1. Foundations of Accounting
    2. Foundations of Economics
    3. Foundations of Finanace
    4. Foundations of Quant.Methods

Since I've been in the business world for 25 years (currently at the VP level), I'm not particularly worried about any of these except the Quantitative Methods course... I'm terrible at math.

Once I start taking classes I'll post more. Feel free to ask me any questions.

Congrats, I think the MBA at the University of Louisana flagship campus is a solid degree in the business world. It is a low cost, can't beat that price, it might even be cheaper than most profit MBA programs.
