    My father, who is a retired Geologist, is just going gaga over this ( Not the damage it caused). He has called me three days in row to tell me of temperature changes to be expected over the next two-four years

    I love every Simon Winchester book. Everyone of them were written from a geologist's point of view. In writing about Krakatoa, he details so many world-wide phenomena caused by that massive volcano. I particularly remember him remarking how the volcano's effects changed the way a whole generation of artists saw and depicted the sky.
