Wait, what? Seriously? Why would a doctorate program require parent signatures and HS transcripts? I can understand needing something like that for an Associate degree program when you're 18, less so when you're an adult with many years of schooling behind you.

Probably a little sarcasm for the land of the not quite right! You basically grease the wheels and that's how things get done.

Master Chief, are your retired US Navy or Coast Guard?

I hope your VUL studies are going well.

    Happy New Year!

I am retired Navy, but not at the rank of MasterChief. I use MasterChief from Halo because I play the series on Xbox against my grandkids. I medically retired as a third class petty officer.

I think Filipino culture is engrained within the admissions process. AMA uses a standardized checklist. I explained that my parents live in another state and I'm a grown adult funding my own program, the response was "Sir..it's part of the requirement..." In their defense, most school officials were working remotely due to COVID being outside the purview of senior admission advisors.

Isn't that always the case? Of course, there are a few huge differences between Filipino and American cultures. That is why it is so obvious in this case, but actually the respective culture is always engrained in the admission process. You just don't notice when the cultures are similar enough.

I may have a possible explanation as to why AMA requires HS transcripts. This is just speculation, of course, but there may be a legal provision in Filipino law that prohibits Filipino universities from enrolling students who do not have an HS diploma that meets certain requirements.

In some European countries there are comparable regulations, for example in Germany. In the German case there are exceptions to this rule. One example is a bachelor's degree, which, however, if it is a foreign degree, must be materially equivalent to a German degree.

If I am right and there is indeed such a rule in the Philippines, then obviously there is no such exception there.

Perhaps...However, after having my colleges Fedex transcripts at my expense, the high school transcripts request appears redundant. The enrollment process felt chaotic and disheveled. What did not bother me was the late-night videoconference chats (I live on the east coast). Oh, and they wanted copies of the diplomas! I forgot to mention that earlier.

It seems that the registration process has changed for the better. When I registered for the DIT program, I only had to provide transcripts from my MSc degree from WGU. I did not have to send my HS transcript or get my parents to sign anything.
