You're telling me that they'll accept experience in anything and not just project management? Having a doctoral degree has no impact on meeting the PMP requirements. He would have to document 36 months of project management experience. If he doesn't have that much experience and lies, he better cross his fingers and hope he doesn't get selected for an audit.

The military veteran who runs the site has built a revenue stream that’s likely pretty darn profitable. Advertises heavily on social media with a slick marketing campaign... uses lots of key words... self-issues/prints the certificates... and offers quite a bit for just a membership/application fee...

Those two programs don't cost anything. I earned a free project management certificate from another lesser-known organization because it was free for veterans and first responders. Even if it doesn't have industry recognition, I believe the training will count toward the 35 hours required for the PMP.

How PM is defined by PMI opens a lot of avenues. Would NEVER advocate that someone lie. When you delve into the PMBOK, it’s pretty darn easy to qualify past work as PM. It’s pretty notoriously loosely defined and there are many Reddit threads and Industry/PM threads arguing and laughing at what can/has qualified. When I worked in industry, it was an expectation that almost every manager in the field earn their PMP, although they didn’t expect or care if you held on to it once you passed it. It is still a GREAT framework of knowledge and assessment, even if the experience requirements are not necessarily the most rigorously enforced or restrictive.

They’re lead generators and marketing magnifiers...

Of course, but you'll still get free documented training. :D They make you go through the study materials, and videos will stop playing if you leave the tab. At the end, there's an exam. Naturally, they're going to want you to pay for more advanced certifications, and they expect that listing your certificate on LinkedIn will attract more customers. Don't care. The Institute of Project Management initially offered free training to attract customers. I got my 30 free hours of training in peace.

Edit: I take that back. MSI's introductory course is only 20 minutes. I actually received 30 hours of training from IPM.
