Getting a PhD in English from the UK?

  1. Hello, everyone!

Apologies for the second post, but I was wondering if anyone here has done a PhD from abroad? Like a distance-learning PhD. A wonderful user here told me to look into this, and I was inspired to look into this option again.

I guess my main concern is this: I didn't take as many literature classes as I should have at NYU. I always wanted a PhD from the States because it will give me more course content. When you do a PhD from the UK, you dive right into your dissertation. I also don't know what are the chances for publication, awards, etc.

    Any advice?

PS: I cannot thank you all enough for being so kind and wonderful to me. It truly means the world to me, more than you know. :)

I have not done a PhD in English in the UK. Still, they did invent the language there, so that may be worth something to consider?

Look up the University of Birmingham. They have several distance PhD programmes.

Something for Americans to consider is that one can get U.S. federal financial aid when enrolling at domestic institutions (whether on campus or by distance), but one cannot get U.S. federal financial aid when enrolling at distance learning programs at foreign institutions, so everything is likely to be out of pocket.

  7. It is truly expensive! :O I calculated it for the University of London, and it seems to be $20,000 a year!

A standard advice in this situation used to be to look at the South African schools. I believe we used to have at least 3 posters on this forum who completed South African degrees. Degrees structured the same as UK ones, fairly cheap.
