Hmm, I wonder what went wrong... being married for 27 years and they are calling it quits... Think of all the charities they helped and donations they made for so many causes, so sad... Link: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/05/03/business/bill-melinda-gates-divorce.html
Perhaps nothing "went wrong." Sometimes people just grow apart and have a different vision for their individuals futures.
I mostly ignored this, but I did see one particularly stupid take: If Bill and Melinda Gates can't make a marriage work, what hope is there for the rest of us? Like what, rich people love harder, or something?
The article isn't bad, IMO. My sense after reading it is that the question in title is meant to be rhetorical.
One satire magazine cracked jokes about this; they announced that they will have shared custody for the whole chipped humanity.
No one really knows what transpires in a marriage except the people that are IN that marriage. About half of ALL marriages end in divorce - why shouldn't those odds apply to people that just happen to be in the public eye? Maybe they'll be better friends than spouses at this point in their lives. People change and sometimes relationships have to evolve.
Melinda divorces Bill because he dropped out of college and refused to join DegreeInfo to continue where he left off through distance/online learning because of his busy professional schedule.
Bill gates was taking over the universe and Melinda only wanted to take over the world. Or at least that is the conspiracy theory version of things.
