    Hello everyone,

I have always wanted to further my studies by doing a PhD. But the fact that I am working make it kind of difficult!

I have recently applied to a distance learning PhD. In Asia Pacific University (Malaysia) and I received an offer but I am still hesitating. They specified that the mode of study ( distance learning) will be mentioned in the Certificate and Transcripts issued for student upon successful completion of the course. Plus the course fees are expensive and there is no scholarships for DL.

I was thinking about not accepting the offer and applying to UNISA in September. But I do not know more about that college. It seems a great one and the fees are not that expensive!

I would be grateful if you could advise me on that matter.

UNISA is a good University with well known alumni and it is inexpensive. The drawback is that it can be complex to navigate administrative aspects. There was a Canadian entity that you could go through to register with them and they helped the process.

Thank you so much for your reply. I think I am going to register with APU and apply in UNISA for the next intake. I do not wanna loose the opportunity I already have while I do not know how hard it is to get to UNISA.
    Much appreciated.

I can only sieak for UNISA. July 2021 makes 12 years there. I did use the Canadian agent, Dr. Michael Esslen. He is quite good. Yes, the administrative hoops are tough.

    1. I can only speak for the History Depratment. I applied back in November 2008. I got in July 2009. I went through the Canadian agent
    2. You have to have a faculty memebet at UNISA sponsor you.
    3. If you need hand holding, UNISA is not for you. Let me reiterate that.
    4. Yes it is inexpensive. Most years are 1600 USD a year. It is whatever 24,000 Rand is in USD.
    5. You get to nominate your co chair
I did. That is part of my issue
    6. My almost 12 years is NOT the norm. Not even close. Most is 4 to 5 years. Again, I can only speak for the History Department.
    7. After 7 years, the government sponsored foreign student help (defrayong some of the cost) ends.
8 When I hit July 2021 ( and I will..sigh), iI will tie the longest doctoral student enrollee in the history of the History Depratment ( yes, I know that is redundant..lol)
    9. Lastly, I am not the norm. Contact the department you are seeking to enroll in fir more details.

Do you know whether IACI is still assisting students on applying to UNISA? I have tried to contact them but no feedback and none of their websites works!

He was ‘experienced’ 20 years ago when he was running these degree assistance services. His two websites went offline years ago.
