Yes, it is bad that police were attacked in Seattle. I guess this whataboutism means that bad shit happens and????? How many police were killed in Seattle? I don't remember any and searched and couldn't find any. So I don't think this whataboutism means that Seattle was worse for the police? Or are you just saying that Seattle is bad and Washington DC is bad so it is okay for our President to incite a riot to stop the government from finalizing his election loss? I'm not very good at understanding whataboutism logic so please explain.

Luckily no one died there. This is not an excuse for what happened on Jan 6th. And we know how Police were attacked in 2020 especially after George Floyd protests.

I wonder if the shrinking but always fanatical Trump Base understands just how passionately the rest of the country hates and despises Trump at this point. Those who plan on further violence against the lawful state and federal governments may find that there's less support for their sedition than they think.

Trump's approval rating has hit rock bottom, 29%. If he runs in 2024 he could probably win the Republican candidacy but he would probably lose by an even greater number in the general election and he lost in 2020 by over 7 million votes. That would be something for the record books wouldn't it. To lose the popular vote in three general elections is a record that would probably never be beaten.

I read an interesting article that touches on one of the topics recently discussed in this thread.
The title is a summary of the article theme.
Analysis: TV news is realigning, with Fox's ratings sagging and CNN's soaring

Basically Fox News hasn't been in its typical number one spot over the past week or two. Mainly for the reason that Lerner alluded too. Which is that the typical Fox viewer is not interested in hearing unpleasant news right now. So they have tuned out in large numbers. While the total news audience has exploded and is way up.

Here was my favorite line in the article.
    quote:
social networks are about 'affirmation, not information' -- and the same can be said about cable news, especially in prime time.

I love that line! It explains much for Fox, MSNBC and CNN. For example it explains in part why on Fox they are recently so fond of pushing baseless conspiracy theories! Why discuss the sad facts when instead we can blame the riot on Antifa or China or whatever?

William Jennings Bryan did this in 1896, 1900, and 1908.

Thank you for the tidbit! So the best he could do is tie the record then. I seriously doubt that he'll run in 2024 though. I'm liking Rich's idea that he will move out of the country to avoid prosecution.

It is looking like Pence is not going to pardon Trump. So we can probably scratch that possibility. Pardoning himself is more likely then? One interesting possibility that has come to light in recent reporting is doing a set of silent pardons. By silent pardon I mean that the pardon is not made public. The public wouldn't find out about them unless the person being pardoned used their pardon. That being the case, we might not find out that he pardoned himself or family at all or maybe not for years.

I'm not sure such a thing as a silent pardon is possible. Public records are made of every official act of every public official. These records are open to public inspection except in certain narrow categories. True, Trump could try to shoehorn a silent pardon into such a category but he won't control the records after noon Wednesday. A simple FOIA request would bring it to light.

That is reassuring news. The fellow that said that also asserted that accepting a pardon did not really admit guilt. Which is different from other reporting that I'd heard on that subject.

Didn't Ford pardon Nixon for any crimes he might have committed while president, or something like that?

From what I've heard, accepting a pardon doesn't necessarily admit guilt, but can be used as supporting evidence to establish guilt in other civil or criminal trials

Traditionally a pardon is considered by the executive authority only after conviction and usually completion of the sentence. Ford did pardon Nixon in advance, though, so the thing is possible. I don't think accepting a pardon is an admission either way especially since the executive pardon power is often used to correct a clear judicial miscarriage.

The transition is underway, I heard this today on one of the channels that Trump will not consider himself as a former President but as a rightful President in exile in his own country.
He will demonstrate this by a military ceremony before the departure on AF1 on Wednesday morning.
Currently he is working on selecting the layers for the Impeachment trial and final editing of a secret list of additional 100 pardons.

Tomorrow it's finally over. Can't say the Trump Administration was boring. Can't even say that there weren't moments of astonishment. I'm thinking in particular of the new peace agreements in the Middle East but there were other things as well. But, to paraphrase Shakespeare, nothing in the Trump Presidency befitted the man less than his leaving of it.

The USA had a long string of peaceful transfers of power, at least since Lincoln. Unfortunately, that string was broken by Donald J. Trump on January 6th. I'm not surprised that he plans on continuing his sedition. Hopefully his "exile in his own country" will be in the confines of prison at some point.

Since the leaders of the actual military have made their position clear, if Trump does something like this it won't be a "military ceremony", it will be cosplay.

Well, I'm not so sure about that "his own country" part. Trump is looking at some serious criminal stuff in state and federal court. Is there a Trump Red Square hotel where he might put up for a few weeks?
