So many opinions on what its like after earning a doctorate from people who have not experienced it. As Chris (and Sly Stone) said, "Different strokes for different folks," sure, but it would help to actually taste an apple before telling others how it might taste.

Well, I added MBA to my LinkedIn name in 2016 then added M.S. in 2018. I've always felt proud about seeing MBA, M.S. behind my name on LinkedIn. I've experienced what it's like to add my master's degrees' post nominal letters. I can't wait to remove those and add Ph.D. I don't see how I'll ever get tired of that. In fact, I'm pursuing my degree because it's a childhood dream to be styled as "Dr."

Thanks. I intend to do just that.
By choice, I'm not one of your (or anybody's) leadership candidates, so I don't have to do as you described, or think/believe as you feel I should. Neither does anyone else, who is not in your classes. And in most cases, whatever one's point of view, there are always supporting authors one can quote. A "quote war" here would be meaningless. Such conflicts usually are.

You can say there are boxes, Rich - and I guess you can even prepare people to stand in them, if you and they are willing. I choose otherwise. I have my reasons. And I'm not alone in that.

For many, there's genuine joy in anticipation, Rich. And they're entitled. Often, it's what keeps them going. Myself, I wouldn't want to rain on that parade. Not one drop.

Being contrarian is just a knee-jerk reaction. Being superficially so is just argumentative.

Nobody's raining on any parade. It was an observation, that's all. In fact, it's one a very famous poster on this board has expressed multiple times. So this sounds, as usual, very personal. Fine. Enjoy.

Don't get a persecution complex. I would post the same comments, no matter WHO posted what you did.
No matter who writes them, some comments are just hard to ignore, that's all. But hard as it may be -- I'll ignore yours completely from now on out. SMH

Yeah, it's hard to ignore (a) opinions and (b) refutations from people who have not had the experiences they're discussing, especially with those who do.

Facts are everyone's domain. But when you come up against someone's judgment who has done what you have not, you sound like a whiny kid complaining that you cannot get your way instead of considering the possibility that someone might actually know what they're talking about.

You have chosen--repeatedly--to make assessments about me. Not merely discussions, or disagreements, but highly personal assessments. These are almost always after I've stated something from direct experience that contradicts your perspective--usually one unearned.

Persecution? Hardly. You do not have that power. So, feel free to ignore my comments. Frankly, it would be a welcomed respite. I shall not, however, return the favor. Opinions based in ignorance can do damage to other readers. AMF.

Same here. No, not exactly, but as soon as I got my FH ("Fachhochschule") title, I was very proud of it and put it pretty much everywhere on my business accessoires. - Well, it's not a "Dr.", but I guess it's the same mechanism!

You may love doing this the rest of your life. You may also grow tired of it. Others may tire of it, too. YMMV.

This is the part where I could care less... :D I'm not on this earth to make anyone but myself happy.

Sigh. I hate how the threads on here become a pissing match of sorts. The threads always seem to get derailed with pointless rhetoric.

LinkedIn is surprisingly bad at honorifics and postnominals, as in there are no special fields for them, and you have to jam them into the First Name or Last Name field, respectively. A lot of people seem to want to do what you do, so I'm surprised they've never added fields for those.

So juvenile of you. The fact is that we all engaged in the discourse.

So true. Then Google would pre-populate fields with "Douglas, PhD, SPHR" because that's how LinkedIn had it.
