It appears to be a relatively new "university" that has appeared in Playa Del Carmen, MX. Online only, according to their website, they have a couple of master's degrees and a Ph.D. in education. As to images, Google Maps suggests this is a storefront. They have a master's program in the Emergency Management field and someone messaged me to ask what I know. Apparently, they are advertising on LinkedIn. I've never heard of them and thought I'd toss this out here to see if any of you do.
(Also, "Ducens" has no Spanish translation but a Latin translation is "Leading").
    Thanks

I was really suspicious when I started looking - but they seem to have their paperwork in order. That's a good sign.

Looked up a couple of the masters degrees. Looked OK. Divided into five four-month terms - so take nearly two years, I guess. I looked for the all-important RVOE that is Accreditation in Mexico. Yep - it was there, for all programs I looked at. (In Mexico, each approved degree program has an RVOE - Reconocido de Validez which is numbered individually.) This school has a postgrad specialist program in Mayan Archeology! That's the one I'd like! But Mexico is a pretty tough place to be these days - even for Mexicans and I don't want a mail-order / Internet degree in this subject. I think field-work is vital. You're not an archaeologist till your hands are dirty and you have bug-bites. That's just me.

The Doctorate in Education has a 2 year duration and is offered in conjunction with Universidad Hispanoamericana Justo Sierra de Campeche. Yes, it has an RVOE number.
Didn't look at the fees. They do offer a bunch of discounts. All courses online, they say.

100% correct. You just earned 3 credits at Die Alte und Freie Universität von Johann. :)

And I should mention for all you folks: Universidad Ducens site does not appear to have an "English" button.

As I said - degrees appear real and legit, proper approval. Not sure at all how degrees of this school would go over outside Mexico. This is a brand new all-on-line small-footprint operation. They were still finishing the premises, in the site pictures of the school. I have no idea who runs it - haven't looked. Employers in other countries - US, Canada might look askance at degrees of such a school. Who knows what US and Can. evaluators might make of it? It's new and each evaluator has an independent view of what it might be worth as an equivalent to a US or Can. qualification.

May not be for you, if either getting a job, or further study hangs on what people think of your degree, from a new untried school in another country. If you just love an irresistible program for your own purposes -and the price is right - AND your Spanish is good - it might be an easier decision. (No indication they have English Language instruction - or ANYTHING English) .

Just did a whois: No additional names on the whois - just the University itself. No useful info there.

Oh, I thought they'd send you a sacrificial altar and a Virgin. No?

I'm sure they have altars a-plenty if needed. The rest --- I'm not sure. Probably not many volunteers.

Have you ANY idea what those things cost to SHIP? Tuition is cheap, but....

    You mean altars? Or virgins?

I thought it was clear - that's why I snipped your post at "altar." As you know, we don't ship virgins. They're people. The days of shipping people around are over - well, almost. Sadly, that sort of thing persists in some remote places, though... I wish it didn't. No harm meant in your joke - I'm sure.

Nosborne is right. Mayans of old did some awful things, by anyone's standards. But I HAVE to find some value in a society where SCRIBES were real "rock stars" -and were treated like them. Great inroads have been made on Mayan inscriptions and writing, but we still have a way to go - partly because scribes developed excellent ways of hiding info. within "outer" inscriptions.

Some are almost like steganography - where you hide info in an image file for your computer. Perhaps when you unscramble the hidden message, it's programming code - perhaps a JavaScript routine, so you wrap it in HTML and run it in your browser to see what it's all about. I'm told that reading well-crafted Mayan inscriptions is sometimes a bit like that - except you have to decode and run them in your head.

Nowadays, there are projects to teach Mayan schoolchildren their people's ancient writing. No "rock stars" yet as far as I know. Give it time... :)

..and has anyone else here (besides me) ever noted a marked similarity in technique between quite a few pre-contact Maya illustrations and good American cartooning / caricaturing of the late '60s "hippie" period? :)

Maybe I should make a picture of stoner "Freewheelin' Franklin" (anyone remember him?) staring up, bemused, at Xux Ek, (Mayan for Venus, the "wasp star.") I think folks could connect the dots really easily.

"Dope will get you through times of no money, better than money will get you through times of no dope." - Freewheelin' Franklin

    Me go nap now.

I didn't say a Virgin what! I might have been referring to olive oil or airline tickets!

I used to think the Mayan images were caricatures too until I met a Mayan.

I know exactly what you mean, Nosborne. But I knew at least one who was, maybe, the exception that proved the rule. My profesora who taught Spanish when I was in College (night school) back in the 80s. She was from Chiapas - and Maya on her mother's side. She had very nice features - certainly Native and quite strongly Asian, as you might expect. In fact, when I first saw her on campus and didn't yet know who she was, I thought she might have been Chinese.

Her husband was a great guy, too. A handsome, Greek engineer. They didn't yet have children at the time. I hope they did, later - they would be terrific-looking kids, I'm positive of that. Smart, too. There'd be no escaping that. :)

OML! I can't believe it! I mention Freewheelin' Franklin and ZAP! They're bringing him and his brothers back to TV for 2020! With Tiffany Haddish, no less. Comedy doesn't get any better than that!

Get more Franklin (and his brothers) here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fabulous_Furry_Freak_Brothers
    Get more Tiffany here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiffany_Haddish

BTW - Franklin made an indirect contribution to learning - at least once. A California library borrowed his quote for a sign: "Books will get you through times of no money, better than money will get you through times of no books." Who says counterculture isn't useful in the mainstream? (I dunno - who'd say a dumb thing like that?)

Thanks for the details. My Spanish is marginal at best so I was relying on Google translation which is only slightly, more reliable!
