So, What Are You Reading?

The bookstore nearest me (chain) has been closed permanently - long slow decline finished by COVID 19. I wasn't going to wait for Amazon & Co. so I read a synopsis online. No - definitely not cyberpunk. Great story, imaginative - as it should be, and full of the things Cyberpunk borrowed from previous genres -dystopic vision of the world, an evil corporate giant, body & mind enhancement, telepaths and teleporters (normally restricted to 1,000 miles, but our hero can do it through space.)

Yes - full of the things cyberpunk borrowed - and none of the ones that were its own. Computers, hacking etc. I still say good story - not Cyberpunk.

 

One part I really liked:

Right now I'm reading Software Engineering 1: Abstraction and Modelling (it's for beginners) and articles on my future profession as a software developer. If there are any IT guys, I would be grateful for your recommendations.

The first is the name of a 1999 law re: beef production. The second is motor vehicle liability insurance. I wish they could somehow be combined.

Great choice. I once had a car I named "Rosinante" - the same as Don Quixote's horse. Like Don Quixote himself, the horse was old, vague, wandering and trying to do things beyond his ability. Exact description of my car. (And maybe of me. )
