There are a number of low cost institutions in Northern Cyprus that I believe cater mainly to Africans.

"...a small training firm in Istanbul..." (origin of ELU) - sounds almost like the intro to a spy novel. No, I guess I'm thinking of "A Small Town in Germany."

Yes - it does look messy. Website with pics of Netherlands institutions, Dutch partners, .nl country code. Everything but tulips and then we get --- Cyprus. I have no idea whether the accreditation they state would mean anything or not for a US evaluation. I do feel that if it would - they might have said something. They say they're "constantly working on" Netherlands accreditation. That would be great. Pretty much instant RA equivalency for US. They should let us know when it arrives.... :)

I think there must be something in Cyprus law that is friendly to start-up schools. Perhaps there is no set threshold regarding accreditation they are required to meet.

And yes - Steve says, there are a number of low-cost institutions headquartered in Cyprus that cater to Africans. I think it's a fairly low number, but yes - we've discussed one recently and it did cater to Africans - and others. It was accredited in Malawi but we couldn't decide if that carried any weight here. Then they advertised programs, the degrees of which were awarded by a known good Zambian entity. One of our number has undertaken a PhD at low cost by our standards. We wish him well and look forward to reports.

I'm not suggesting any of these Cyprus-domiciled schools is doing anything fraudulent or illegal. But the UDP (University Degree Program) scam of the 1990s, with over 30 fictitious Universities, was headquartered in Cyprus (and Romania, and Israel and Boston.) Old memories die hard. Perhaps the perennially friendly climate of Cyprus is to blame.

I think I'll wait till that Netherlands accreditation comes through...

Update. Our member has reported that he and the University people were unable to come to an agreement regarding a dissertation topic, so, unfortunately, he will not be pursuing studies there. He says that although he won't be signing up, they were good, competent people throughout - nothing against the school whatsoever.

So we may never know about that school.

Good to know, Steve. I knew that our fellow member's degree would have been awarded by U. Zambia, which is a known good school. I didn't realize that UNICAF itself was Zambia-accredited, and I'm glad to hear it. I thought it only had standing in Malawi, for some reason. (Sigh.) Wrong again, Johann!

What I meant when I said "so we may never know about that school" was: We may never know what they are like to deal with, what the student experience is like, etc. The accreditation in that particular case wasn't an issue, to me, because U. Zambia is known. Now it appears, it's not going to be an issue at all. I hope we do hear from someone else about their experience - and that it's all good news. :)

Whole bunch of these private, registered, all-programs-accredited Universities in Zambia. I'm gonna spend a while, see if they have any viable distance offerings...

If you want an MS related to Analytics or Software and do not want to spend more than $10,000, then select one from these universities

Might be me, but I think Georgia Institute of Technology or UT Austin might be a little more recognizable than a university in Cyprus, unless of course the goal is simply to get a degree and not work hard to get it.
