I do not know of any such journal. I read Higher Ed weekly as it's free but it reminds me of part National Inquirer and part fake news. Once in a while, they do an article about real educational and not social events.

I also read UNICON, but it's very specific education.

I do not read FT except for its annual ExecEd rankings.

The names are largely immaterial, except when distinguishing who actually awarded the degree. And even then, most people won't care if you earned your degree at Penn State or Penn State Harrisburg. It's like all the teeth-gnashing over "Excelsior." The name isn't going to affect you one little bit if you earn their degree, no matter how silly you find that name.

The name of the institution does bear some weight in some aspects. Maybe not for everyone or every employer but for some, it certainly does. I’d love to see someone land a consulting gig at McKinsey, Boston or Bain with an MBA from a school outside of the Top 25ish.

I know someone with a doctorate from Vanderbilt and they haven't been able to secure an adjunct online position.

That sucks. The university certainly does not GUARANTEE anything. However, it certainly can depending on the work you are in or want to be in.

Many people get jobs that have nothing to do with their majors...

Money is money. Education is education... sometimes they don't relate :)

What is their degree in? That can make the difference.

This is what is frustrating about this board. NO ONE posting here is in that applicant pool No one. While I (again) agree with you, I suggest that it is irrelevant to the discussion. Going outside the scope of the board to find examples doesn't move the discussion forward. It is just a point for argument.

By the way, I have a no-name MBA, two doctorates, three professional certifications, a diploma from an executive leadership program at Harvard, and 40 years of multi-sector experience. And I can assure you not one of those companies would give me the time of day. And that's the point. :)

Nursing (definitely not a field that has limited adjunct opportunities). The person even thought their nursing background would have helped. They also had two interviews but none of the positions. That tells me the name of the school alone won't get you the position

I have a close friend who is an Associate Consultant at McKinsey and Co. He got his PhD in Cell and Molecular Medicine from The Johns Hopkins University. I have an interview with a FAANG company on August 19th and if I do not get it, I will be applying to MBB for Consulting. Duke Fuqua places a lot of graduates into MBB and with a friend on the in, I’ll see what happens. I do have to brush up on my case study analysis since they have the case study interviews.

I wonder if their region has a lot of nursing graduates? Where I am, we have a major shortage of nursing instructors and everyone I know who has looked for an adjunct position has landed one.

She's applying solely for online positions, so region shouldn't be an issue.

I do not want to highjack this thread, but I can maybe shed some light on this as I sit on our hiring committee and we just hired a few nursing staff. So a few things for nursing adjuncts, please note that this is only from the candidates we have interviewed and in my state of NC:

    For Our Traditional Nursing Faculty:
    1. Had to be RN licensed in this state or licensed in another state and obtain licensure in NC
    2. Had to have experience as a nurse, particulary in a hospital but other experience was fine (this is what the Dean of the Healthcare School wanted)
    3. Some teaching experience, it did not have to be at a university but at a hospital or training where they worked, this was optional as well
    4. Had to have a minimum of a Masters in Nursing that was RA or NA. If their masters was NA, their associates and/or bachelors had to be RA if they had experience and were licensed
    5. A doctorate was optional but the full time faculty member we hired had an Ed.D, the part time trad nursing faculty we hired had a masters

For Our Online, Evening, & Weekend Nursing Faculty:
    1. #1 above applied
    2. #2 above applied
    3. This was not even mentioned
    4. #4 above applied, but only for our bachelors program, for our LPN to RN nursing associate program , two with bachelors degree were hired (this program is on the weekends only)
    5. #5 was not even mentioned but we do have one doctorate level adjunct who is a full time VP of nursing at a hospital locally

So I hope this helps. If your friend is willing to work face to face (with the pandemic) she would easily pick up adjunct gigs there are many commuinty colleges and universities that need nursing, allied health, and healthcare adjuncts.

I'm glad you're sensitive to the case study interview challenge. It is the key to success in the process. Good luck!

so looks like there's UAGC, and there's UA Online as well.

However, I found UA Online is their 'Extended campus'. I applied to their program.. and the program is offered through their 'Extended online campus' so it's kinda like Harvard Extension, UCLA Extention, etc.

UAGC offers associate degrees... I think I will try that option.

Awesome, no more purple scheme website. Now, I am curious how does the diploma look like.
