I thought there would have been some proof in there and read enthusiastically until the author admitted there was none. No big deal, it is the first of April.

"But the circumstantial evidence is compelling. The pattern is: 1) Trump deals with mobsters as usual; 2) Law enforcement begins investigating Trump; 3) Mobsters suddenly get busted, while 4) investigation into Trump is scuttled. This happened three times that we know about. I’m not counting the first known instance of Trump providing information to prosecutors, concerning Cody and concrete, in the late 70s:"

You're right of course but the possibility of proof in such cases is remote because even the authorities would be invested in keeping the secret. I like the story because it appeals to my quarantine-fueled conspiracy mindedness.

Trump is Conspiracy-theory-in-chief. We should leave those activities to the Trump party but I can't resist with this one.

Hydroquinone Why is Trump Trump pushing this so hard? He brought it up 3 times in the Saturday briefing! It makes no sense to me unless Trump is somehow positioned to make money off of it. Note: this is my own spun conspiracy theory.

Alternate Theory #1 - It's one of Trump's buddies making all the money and now they owe a big favor to Trump. In the world it's sometimes better to have someone powerful owe you a favor than to have their money in your pocket.

Trump wants a shortcut. He's always taken shortcuts in business and in politics. He didn't want to get into the complexities of the Iran deal, so he bolted. Bad move. He didn't understand the complexities of the North Korean situation, so he tried to shortcut it and failed. Remember the wall and Mexico paying for it?

Now he's faced with an opponent he can't bluff, he can't lie his way out of, and can't simply bypass. He desperately hopes something will come along and save the economy--and his presidency. So he embraces every crackpot idea tossed his way--and a few he comes up with himself. But notice that he has to back down every time in the face of reality.

The question is whether or not voters will hold him accountable in November.

You might be right Rich, heck you might both or either one be right! It would be a mistake though to think that Trump is stupid. He makes stupid decisions sometimes because he's so focused on a very short sighted self serving perspective, but he's not stupid. Him pushing untested drugs just looks too stupid to me and I can't figure it out without some very selfish explanation. <shakes head and shrugs>

For sure, but it might not be a mistake to think that Trump isn't the man he once was. For example, the onset of dementia is a reasonable explanation for why a man who was shrewd in past decades now appears incapable.

True, which if that is the case then it leads to even more scary thoughts about a narcissist that believes in the accuracy of his gut not caring that his faculties are slipping because he can rely on the accuracy of his gut more fervently. I think I'm going to go back to bed now and pull the covers over my head.

I agree, but can't help but wonder how well this also describes the danger of putting Biden in the captain's chair.

Biden and Sanders were my last choices for the age reason. At least they don't have the broken personality that our current President has though. Meaning they don't usually lie, they are capable of having empathy for others, they are much less likely to fire OIG's or aircraft carrier captains for doing their job, they don't claim to have a magic gut that knows all, etc. etc. So, I think Biden would be a big improvement over our current President.

I agree, at least as far as that he would be less bad. But it really says something about how dysfunctional the U.S. political system is that out of 330 million people, the best the two major parties could do was Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

As I Democrat I simply must, in good conscience...agree.

When I see governors like Inslee and Newsom, mayors like Garcetti, and senators like Harris, Brown, Klobuchar, and Warren.

And Republicans like Dan Coats, Mitt Romney, Jason Chaffetz, or John Kasich. (Sorry, I'm sure there are plenty of others, but they're harder for me to consider. No slight intended.)

I know how we got here, but I often wonder why.

Pragmatically, Biden is my first choice, because of his expertise on Ukraine.

But the rest of America don't have to agree. I do not have other compelling reasons to pick him over most other Democrats who ran; everyone except Bernie, Gabbars, Bloomberg, and Seyer seemed like better picks for the job. Women, especially Warren, looked actually better than all the males on that stage... sigh...

Republicans blow, every single one of them (well, maybe Romney, but even him...). Still - bunch of candidates would be light years better than Donald Trump.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but democracy is less about picking the best leader as it is about getting rid of the worst without violence. I really hope it will do that job in November.

Biden wasn't my first choice. I was hoping for a female. But the main reason I'm responding is I just really liked the above paragraph in your post. Not sure how well it works in general but for the current position we're in it is right on! ;)
