80,000 signed up for FAU free Hospitality & Tourism Management Certificate.

This was a one week $899 on-campus certificate that they moved online during COVID-19.

•As of 2019, Florida Atlantic University (FAU) Executive Education is ranked No. 71 globally, No. 15 in the United States, No. 3 in the southeast, and No. 1 in Florida, by Financial Times (FT). FAU is a Top 30 Hospitality Management Degrees in the United States by TheBestSchools.org.

Wow. I'm surprised they have the resources to accommodate that many people.

Would Harvard do the same for Certificate in Business Administration? :D

Seemingly, they haven't any more. Quote of their website: "The Certificate Program in Hospitality and Tourism is at full capacity."

Good for them! I wonder if they were able to convince their legislation to allow them to drop tuition fees for that course and just receive FTE reimbursement, as an effort to help the Florida economy rebound. Kudos regardless.

I'm pretty sure if students are willing to pay for a program themselves that such a suggestion would be DOA in any state legislature, especially now.

I am not sure how many students in the past paid for the one week $899 program but many did. Their website and LinkedIn said they did it to help the industry and folks out of work in this industry due to COVID-19. They seem to not be the average Narcissistic Higher Ed university. I am a fan of them now.

It's fairly common for state Economic Development boards to push for certain programs that will benefit key industries or lure key companies, to have tuition waived. In Florida, I can't imagine a more universally worthwhile training program than professional development for tourism personnel. No idea how Florida funds their universities, but it's not uncommon for non-curriculum programs such as this to receive payment from the state based on an FTE model with a number of modifiers, which often makes the "tuition" cost nearly irrelevant and easily waived. It's one of the reasons we're seeing more and more universities having endowments sometimes cover non-curriculum courses, they can pay the tuition and the school may instantly receive a 4-5x payback.

I just finished the FAU free Hospitality & Tourism Management Certificate.

They said it was professor's Dr. Peter Ricci idea! Some hospitality & tourism businesses gave them "seed money" and FIU spend 10-days putting it together. Compare that to many Universities' business schools who talk a good game but closed down executive education as they did NOT have adaptable business skills. COVID-19 is showing who "walks the walk" and who just "talks the talk."

After the first COHORT of 10,000 that group of students started donating money called "pay it forward" and FIU was able to do 3 more COHORTs and ending with 78,000 total students. FAU has proven to be what they teach in business schools.

I completed this program as well. It was very nicely done. Lots of great content. Thank you, Life Long Learning, for sharing it on this and the other forum.

Haha. It is quite remarkable what is out there. It would be nice if the providers could spread these things out a bit. Haha.

I didn't join the free FAU cert as it is in a field that i'm not really interested in, however; I did the two sessions for the U of A cert in "Leadership... in Turbulent Times" last Thursday. This upcoming Thursday, I'll be joining TEKMAN again in the same two time slots. I wonder if eriehiker is going to be there as well. I couldn't find the classes all in one day, so am doing it "two Thursdays". BTW, nice green cap eriehiker... i didn't catch what it says on that cap... i was just wondering

Haha! As a matter of fact, I am signed up for two sessions tomorrow. So I will spend my time trying to figure out who AsianStew is in real life. I hope that it only takes a few private Zoom chat messages otherwise people are going to think that I am crazy.

BTW, I am also signed up tomorrow for an overnight Microsoft Azure training from India. I wonder if they would notice if I turned my video and sound off and just slept through for the voucher.
