Clearly you are wrong. Accreditation does mean something. It may not mean everything but it means more than nothing. Sorry you got jammed up by Argosy. It wasn't really "out of the blue," however. There were signs of trouble dating back to the Dream Center takeover.

Moreover, trouble with one school with a particular tax status doesn't mean all other schools with that tax status are the same. Otherwise after the UNC-Chapel Hill debacle we'd have had to conclude that all public institutions are ethical voids.

Kizmet is quite correct - Argosy closed suddenly, but it was certainly predictable. (I had been predicting it openly for several months.) It was especially painful because ASPP was one of the few programs at a for-profit that had APA approval as well as regional accreditation.

So when they finally flew the coop, I was prepared to enjoy the entire debacle. "Hey," I said, "Argosy is obviously going to go down the tubes. Can you imagine how that's going to screw all of their students - like Patricia Sanders - who will eventually come here to DI and whine about how they got screwed? Oh boy, what fun!"

In other words, the signs were all there. And you missed them. And thanks to your whine, I can now laugh at you.

So welcome to DI. We're delighted to have you here. Out of curiosity, what have you done since? Did you find another Psy.D. program into which you could transfer, one that would accept at least some of your Argosy credits? If not, why not? Or do you prefer to just sit and whine?

Since 2016, almost 40 not-for-profit schools have closed. I guess they're pretty shady, too?

I don't blame Patricia for being angry. I'd be angry too, as would anyone. Some might have dug a little deeper and uncovered the problem before falling into the hole but let's face it, a lot of students have gotten caught up in these school closures. How many students got screwed in the Corinthian mess? But if Argosy deceived people, and I guess they did, that's not a reason to criticize accreditation. I never paid any attention to the bankruptcy details but I guess no one ever recovered any money. And almost certainly people got screwed if they tried to transfer all their credits into another, similar program. We know that schools don't typically accept many grad credits in transfer. Like Steve, I hope that Patricia landed on her feet but I'm guessing that her level of rancor indicates she did not.
