    Hi Everyone!

Did Liberty University change its Doctor of Business Administration's admission requirement? It does not seem to be required an MBA from ACBSP or ACCSB accreditation anymore. I also received this in the email.

"In an effort to keep pace with benchmark schools and current market trends, the School of Business is releasing changes to the current Doctor of Business Administration (D.B.A.) program. Starting in Spring 2020, the comprehensive exam will be eliminated, and the dissertation will be replaced with an Applied Doctoral Research Project (ADRP).

In the ADRP, the candidate will be able to choose from either a consulting project or a single case study. Both of these options are closely aligned with the type of research a D.B.A. practitioner will need to conduct and, because these options will not be published, do not require approval from the Institutional Review Board. The result will be a smoother progression through research courses.

aka Liberty's DBA program is struggling they're trying to make it easier to get into and more appealing for people.

At the risk of appearing even more cynical than I already do, I interpret this to mean, "In an effort to keep the money coming in . . . "

Let's not forget (assuming you know) that the DBA, Ed.D., DPA, and the likes are professional doctorates. Their culminating experience does not have to be a traditional five-chapter dissertation. The Ed.D. (School of Education) at Liberty also stripped the dissertation requirement in favor of the capstone. All Ph.D. programs and some professional doctorates (DPA, Ed.D. "counseling") at Liberty still require the completion of a dissertation. A lot of professional doctorates at several universities and colleges culminate with a capstone or a similar applied research project.

Oh I know that Liberty is not unique in this regard. But it's so painfully obvious what's going on when they relax standards like this. It really pushes things to the point where a DBA is little more than a glorified MBA. The next thing you know, I'm going to be agreeing with Rich Douglas about the distinction between the DBA and the PhD.

Liberty hasn't increased its tuition for online students for 4 straight years. The school also froze the tuition/boarding costs of residential students in the AY 2019-20. Doesn't seem like a school that's desperate to generate more profit.

I hope Liberty is giving you some sort of tuition break for all the shilling you're doing. I'm no businessperson but you don't need to have an MBA to know that increasing tuition doesn't necessarily lead to higher profits. People will begin to bail out for cheaper schools at some point. I'll even bet there's a nifty little equation somewhere that you can plug in the variables and it will tell you the price to set your product/service. You know, a pricing analysis. Freezing tuition might actually be a better way to increase profits as it might result in increased applications and provide a little marketing potential at the same time. But you knew all that from your MBA program, right?

My guess you are the next target. You are a shiller! You may need to confirm and toss-in a few unaccredited institutions like SL, Sophia etc. Take care.

This is extremely hilarious. I guess you had privilege, Chris and I didn’t. We are proud of our accomplishments irrespective of all the roadblocks.

You prob don't need an MBA to figure that out. You'll prob also know that having an MBA doesn't mean you know everything about business. So, when I earn my Ph.D., it doesn't mean I'll know everything about crime, justice, or research. Btw, if 25% tuition discount is considered payment, then I guess I am being paid :)

So, I just learned that the initial DBA program at Liberty required an Applied Doctoral Research Project (ADRP) before it went to the Dissertation requirement. In the AYs 2015-16 and 2016-17, the ADRP was required. However, in the AYs 2017-18 and 2018-19, there was a shift to the dissertation. Come Spring 2020, the program moves back to an ADRP requirement.

As long as we agree that the classical distinctions between professional and scholarly doctorates get blurred all the time....sure.

Just had lunch with a Retired KC135 Navigator - great guy! I read in previous posts you are retired Air Force. May get a kick out of this story.
He told the Aircraft Commander (AC) to turn left 45 degrees then right 90 degrees then left 45 degrees. The AC said, "What was that about?" The Nav said, "Sir, I didn't want you to fly through the mustard stain on my nav charts."
Talk about blurred. Couldn't stop laughing.

I was accepted last spring into Liberty's DBA program as a graduate from Columbia Southern University's MBA program (which is NA and only a IACBE member school). Liberty's program seemed solid but I couldn't stomach Jerry Falwell Jr knowing that my tuition dollars were going toward his bank account. Glad they are dropping the comprehensive exam requirement and moving to only the applied doctoral project which is more practical.

Have you start Liberty's DBA yet? If so, how are the classes?
