Searching one of the most known Ph.D portals for affordable DBA I came across this option in Malaysia for EDBA delivered by Stamford Raffles College, Australia and validated by North Borneo University. I visited the University web site https://www.nbuc.edu.my/ but the EDBA degree is not mentioned. Hmm, also I am not at all familiar with the SRTC but it seems it has campuses all over Asia...
Being a long time lurker, I am aware that some of you are familiar with Malaysian Unis. and I would appreciate your opinion on this EDBA option.
    Thanks

Does anyone know of an affordable DBA outside of the U.S.? I'm considering expanding on my MBA once I'm almost done with my Ph.D. I'm thinking it will open more doors for adjuncting. I'm hoping to maybe teach full-time online but business seems to have more opportunity than crimina justice.

First, while I welcome you to DI – and I do welcome you – I find it suspect that such a person who finally registers as a new user and makes his or her first post does so in regard to what appears to be such a sleazy program. Am I reaching any conclusion about you, o’ new one? No, merely noting that I find it suspect.

That said, you’ll find information on this bullshit program at http://stamfordraffles.education/index.php/schools-and-programmes/8-static/13-executive-doctor-of-business-administration-level-10. Why do I call it a bullshit program? Because if you review the Stamford Raffles web site, nowhere do you find any of their credentials referred to as degrees. My take is that they do not appear to be authorized to grant degrees, and have chosen a mickey-mouse university in Malaysia to act as their “validator.” The notion of a university validating degrees for other schools has largely been discredited over the past several years – if a college is not able to offer its own degrees, obviously they should be avoided.

The SRC site claims, “Stamford Raffles College offers professional programmes at various levels ranging from Certificate courses to postgraduate level from conventional classes to online and distance learning education.” Clear? They do not offer degrees,” and to call a so-called program “Executive Doctor of Business Administration” when it does not grant a degree is, IMO, a downright fraud.

As for the University of North Borneo (a British protectorate that was absorbed into Malaysia many years ago), they do not appear to be listed anywhere significant – you won’t even find them on Wikipedia, for example. While Wiki is not the best source for scholarly or journalistic information, much can be said about whether an institution is listed there at all (even if it’s only in a puff piece written by itself). Moreover, the English on the NBUC web site is atrocious, and when a language enjoys second official status in a country, I expect the use of that language on a university website to be proper and correct.

So we have a non-degree so-called Doctorate that appears to be affiliated with two schools that raise questions as to their credibility. Now, dear Tobe, think for a moment: why would you even consider such a program when someone like me could raise questions about their credibility with even a cursory scan?

    Welcome Tobe ;)
Here is a link that says which degrees North Borneo University offers http://www2.mqa.gov.my/mqr/english/eakrKPList.cfm?IDAkrIPTS=293
but also found on their web site they offer https://www.nbuc.edu.my/programmes/borneo-business-school-bbs/phd-in-business-administration
so a bit of confusion ...o_O
In no case I am expert in Malay education also about Stamford Raffles College I never heard off.
Maybe your are looking for affordable degree ..but from a quick glance I would recommend that you look elsewhere....
but I trust there will be more posters with better insight of Malay education ;)

This might be a good option https://www.northumbria.ac.uk/study-at-northumbria/courses/doctor-of-business-administration-dtfbad7/
even though I would not put both the Ph.D. and DBA on the CV especially when looking for job in academia, one or the other...but then this is a big debate for another thread possibly ;)

Thanks for the recommendation although I don't understand the fees. I wouldn't remove any of my degrees to appease anyone. The hard work involved in earning a doctorate should never be downplayed.

I think it is important to acknowledge that the OP was on search for affordable phd/dba. Many of us here who do not have the financial means are on such a search. Thus, we are here. Nevertheless, we have to be mindful of the many pitfalls. DI have been doing a most excellent job in vetting many of the obscure institutions and programs.

I second this... ;) If I was the OP I would contact directly the University.
I think there are posters like Johann that follow the DL in Malaysia that could possibly shed some light into the University..if the thread caught his attention.

With regards to affordable having a quick scan of the fees range from 5000-1000 euros, which IMO is not so affordable at the end of day. There are plenty EU options available at that range.

Have you been doing much online adjunct work lately? The climate for making a six figure living, while stringing together multiple online adjunct gigs is drying up. Trend is to now supplement those roles with corporate learning and design gigs.

Teach online sounds like an oxymoron. :D

There is a Ministry site that was referred to above in a post by Pappas. It clearly lists which degrees a school is authorized to offer. If they're offering any others under "own title" I'd be very wary, as the non-Ministry-approved degree may not be highly acceptable where you live. And as noted, Stamford Raffles College is not a degree-granting school - as they clearly state, themselves. If you're thousands of miles away and they're merely selling someone else's program, maybe you should go direct.

Most of the well-known Malaysian schools have a pretty good cost structure, from a Western point of view. I'd see what they had to offer, if I were you. Universiti Sains Malaysia and Open University of Malaysia are where I'd start, for distance ed.
