At some maybe 5-10 years from I wonder if DEAC will be viewed in the same light as the other regional accrediting bodies. [/QUOTE]
DEAC … other regional accrediting bodies

DEAC is a national accrediting body, not a regional accrediting body.

Good reputation? That is very much a subjective opinion. I earned my MBA with CSU and expended another 9 years in its DBA program but ended up being an ABD in lieu. I had completed 60 credit hours and maintained a GPA 3.89. However, halfway through my dissertation, CSU unilaterally changed my Chairperson to one Christopher Wike who claimed my approved Concept Paper and Dissertation Proposal were not align with the program. A full detail of the unfortunate event is available for reading at : https://www.facebook.com/notes/tan-leng-huat-david/columbia-southern-university/349014195471946/

For anyone who decides to pursue your DBA with CSU, it is advisable that you find out in advance whether or not the faculty possesses the relevant competence in your research area. Get a written confirmation from Director for DBA before committing yourself to the pursuit. Otherwise, after expending both money and time, you may just end up like me and others with a title in reverse and credits you have a hard time transferring to other universities.

I didn't realize that the DBA was the new ABD :D

Sorry that happened to you. I've heard of similar situations happening to students at Harvard. All opinions are subjective, otherwise they wouldn't be opinions, they'd be facts. Your one unfortunate situation doesn't change mine or the prevailing.

Steve, did you read his Facebook complaint? I was up around 3 this morning and couldn't sleep. It was rather interesting to read.

I found that it read like a comic book that was written in "amateur legalese." Phrases like . . .
. . . are downright inflammatory. The question is whether this student pursued his other options before writing his diatribe. Regardless of this, I think he has killed any chance he had to resolve his problem by mere virtue of alienating the school's faculty and administration. One of the many things a person should learn in the doctoral process is the art of diplomacy, and Mr. Tan doesn't seem to have this gift.

Besides, nine years in this program? Notwithstanding that I think DEAC doctoral programs are a joke and that for-profit online so-called universities are also a joke, I think there is another side to this story, and this guy's side comes off as one big whine. If I were the faculty or administrator to whom this was addressed I'd be laughing my ass off - he has already lost his own case.

Great observations. I'm glad you mentioned diplomacy. I will have to keep this in mind as I head towards the dissertation phase.

Just curious if you have had any contact with the current Chair of Business Dr. James Ready? When I was once considering CSU he seemed fairly open and honest. CSU wouldn't support my proposed DBA research projects around healthcare and technology as they weren't "business enough" either. He was honest in telling me what I kinda already knew that Capella or Liberty would be better options (not to mention both are regionally accredited). The only reason I considered CSU in the first place was price. If you are only interested in self fulfillment it's not a bad option but I would definitely do the research and talk with faculty there (as well as any other University you are considering)

His Facebook post has all that information. He has exhibits which include contact with James Ready.

It should be noted that Westcliff is regionally accredited in addition to being nationally accredited. As a sidenote, they have several men's and women's sports teams and they do play big-time schools.

Okay I went back and re-read his post along with the letter that Dr. Ready sent regarding his choice of dissertation topic. While not knowing exactly what's David proposal entail I do think there is validity by both parties here. A political economy is an area that covered in most international business courses (including the one I took as part of my MBA program at Columbia Southern). Maybe had David agreed to narrow his focus to a single country and industry he might have been able to make some progress. However the real problem here is the lack of diversity and subject matter experts within CSU's faculty along with them trying to maybe make their DBA program seem more like a PhD program. I myself never looked at a PhD in Business because I know the challenge would be great for me to bring new and exciting research and theory given my limited time commitment and age (I'm spending 5-7 years working on a degree at this point...3 1/2 years is the max). CSU is not a research university nor should it pretend to be. I know they want to eventually become a RA school but pretending to be something that you're not won't help you score points in the long run. My background is in IT consulting and systems implementation and Dr Ready made it clear to me that faculty at CSU couldn't support any projects around IT or Healthcare management (which he didn't consider it to be "business" although I argue the aspects of health economics and finance is "business").

Apparently you have not read thoroughly and/or understand the contents in pertinent to my FB posts. If you had, you would have no difficulty seeing that I actually followed through with all CSU’s protocols.

Amateur and lacking in diplomacy as you may find my writing, however, at least I lack your tenacious ability to jump the gun. Whatever I have claimed therein is supported by emails between relevant parties. Yes, if you were the administrator or faculty (keep dreaming you can one day be LoL) we will all be laughing our ass off for sure.

Yes I did which chrisjm correctly noted. Unfortunately, he too refused to address the issue which were raised. Emails between us are also made available for viewing.

Furthermore, I am not the only victim. At least two other of whom I know of suffered similar fate.

Indeed, I have read through your exhibits, Mr. Tan. And while they are thorough, I still find that your writing style reeks of "amateur legalese." You are like a person engaging in pro se representation, and as Henry Kett wrote in 1814, “every man who is his own lawyer has a fool for client.”

Moreover, sir, I have been both an administrator and a faculty member and I have, in fact, taught both law and educational administration at a regionally accredited graduate school. Speaking of jumping the gun, you are obviously not aware of my history or credentials, which makes you guilty of presumption. I still predict that, if you are still pursuing a case against Columbia Southern University, you will lose. And everyone will then be laughing their collective ass off except, perhaps, you.

I see that your educational background includes two profit-making DEAC-accredited colleges (California Coast and CSU). I have never been a fan of either institution and note, sir, the old adage that you get what you pay for. I nonetheless wish you luck on principle, and thank you for the entertainment. Only a true whiner could have presented this case as you have. I am, as you said in your response, LOL.

The following content of my email is self-explanatory. Even that was not accepted. How much further can I give in?

I am not pursuing any case against Columbia Southern University but merely sharing my personal experiences. I believe that you can also see from my profile I do not need that paper qualification to make a living. Moreover, the little amount of money spent does not even bite.

I am only agreeable with you on the point that "you get what you pay for". Is this not what I am bringing to the attention of others? :) Inasmuch as you see me a whiner or what other names you have for me, I no less see you as a mere bragger with a locked profile? LoL I have as good a laugh as you did. You are equally entertaining. Oh. by the way, your command of the English language is also so-so...LOL!
