Does anybody have an MBA from UIW in San Antonio? Would you recommend getting an MBA from the school? How difficult where the courses? Do you think it would hinder or has hindered you from getting a job?

Anybody here? Among our thousands of members, I highly doubt it.
    No.
For me, they were not difficult at all. Of course, I never took any of them.
Nope, it never hindered me. And never would. Of course, until this morning, I never heard of these guys. :D

Find an AACSB accredited MBA, UIW is not AACSB accredited. I recommend my alma mater, Lamar University. The tuition for the entire program is under 14k. There are other AACSB programs around this price tag including LSU-Shreveport.

I have zero personal knowledge of UIW other than they are a private school which means they are going to have much higher tuition. Personally, in a day and age where access to online MBA programs is at its highest (and climbing), I would recommend finding an AACSB accredited program. The institution where I got my MBA is just under $12,000 for the entire program and they are AACSB accredited.

Well it's a regionally accredited school so I don't know why it would hinder you in the marketplace but at the same time I would point out that there are so many alternative online MBA programs that I'm not sure why you'd pick that one. I've got nothing against it, I just don't know why it would be preferred. It's a little Catholic college in Texas. If you're in San Antonio it might have some name recognition value. If you're a kind of hardcore Catholic person you might want a degree from a Catholic school. Otherwise . . .?

It’s completely free that is why I’m choosing it. ;)Also my GPA isn’t the greatest to get into a better program.

Universities have several levels, or ranges, of reputation. One model I like is local/regional/national. For example, two schools with differing local reputations look the same outside that locality.

Incarnate Word has a good local reputation in San Antonio. But that degree would be indistinguishable from one awarded by, say, Our Lady of the Lake or St Mary's, or even perhaps UT San Antonio.

AACSB accreditation tracks well with B-school rankings, so it is a good indicator of quality. But employers won't know and won't care.

That's perhaps the best reason of them all.

That's awesome! How did you get it free? Was there some sort of financial aid type of application you had to go through? Their MBA is ACBSP, you're in good shoes. It may not be AACSB, but it'll get you further than just a regular RA/NA MBA program without the programmatic or secondary ACBSP accreditation and it's better than all the other IACBE programs offered as well!

Please explain this. What advantages are there for graduates of ACBSP-accredited MBA programs? There are distinct employment situations where an AACSB-accredited MBA is required, but even they are few. But ACBSP? Perhaps some semblance of quality control, maybe. But how is it "better"? Asking for a friend....

Military tuition assistance! There are handful of schools like UNC-Pembroke, WKU, ECU, and University of Louisville that accept military tuition for their MBA programs, but my gpa isn’t the greatest.

Here's some unsolicited advice. I'm guessing that 90% or more of schools that offer online masters degrees offer an MBA. The amount of choices you have is huge. If your military assistance covers your tuition at any school or even a majority of schools, you should be able to find a school that'll accept you that has a better national reputation than UIW, if that's something you're interested in. There's nothing wrong with that school, but unless you live in San Antonio or Texas, no one is going to have heard of that school. And if you can go to other schools for free, I'd go with the other schools.

My GPA is what is hindering me. 2.74 overall. My last 60 is 3.25. My GMAT/GRE scores will not be impressive so I think.

You probably wouldn't make it into Lamar unless your GMAT is mad impressive.

Applicants must meet at least one of the following standards:

    • A total of at least 1,000 points based on the formula: (200 x GPA) + GMAT score = 1,000 or higher
    • -or-
    • A total of at least 1,000 points based on the formula: (200 x the GPA of the last 60 hours of undergraduate work) + GMAT score = 1,000 or higher

Wasn’t even trying they don’t meet the military tuition assistance cap. o_O So I would have to pay out of pocket for that school if I qualified. $250 per credit is the max the military tuition assistance program will pay.

I'm copying the post you made at https://www.degreeinfo.com/index.php?threads/grad-schools-and-ta.56112/ here so it's handy to the current discussion:
Out of curiosity, in what did you do your undergraduate degree and from where?

My take is that unless you're trying to get into a highly competitive program, most schools would accept you if you're not a total walking disaster. When the funding is available to you, most schools would love to get their hands on it just to increase their body count.

I got my undergrad from a state university in the midwest and graduated with 3.45 from them, but I missed up My overall gpa in my younger years.

I'd encourage you not to worry about the whole gpa thing. Most of these online MBA programs are virtually open admission. If you have a pulse and a checkbook they'll give you a shot.

In the words of Bill Murray, "It just doesn't matter."

FWIW, even with three degrees, I never had a GPA. For that matter, except for six credits that I transferred into my BA program, I never had a grade. And never needed one.

Nonetheless, you managed to avoid answering my previous question. I can see not naming the specific school from which you graduated (although it would have no bearing on the future since you have, presumably, already graduated), but avoiding naming your major? So here’s what I was going for: Did you, in fact, major in business for your undergrad, or might you end up having issues with MBA prerequisites?

Personally, and at the risk of offending you, I think you’re going to crap out in the end run – not because of your GPA, but because you appear to have a defeatist attitude. If you carry it over into an actual MBA program, you're doomed to frustration and failure.

FWIW, the list you provided of tuitions (which I reprinted above) is excellent. Have you checked schools other than UIW to see if they are sticklers on the GPA issue or if they even require the GMAT or GRE? (In other words, see Kizmet's message above - the admissions picture is far more open than you imagine.)

And, FWIW, regarding my prediction, I would be delighted if you prove me wrong. You just need to get rid of the negative approach.

I have spoken. Get over it. :D
