A friend is asking if he can do this. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from India that he finished in 1988. Now he want to apply for WGU BS-Software Development: Apply for admission Have his degree evaluated and see if he gets any credits Complete any credits he can from Saylor/SL/SCD Then transfer them in and start study for remaining credits. Needless to say that friend is me
One more note (from WGU chat): "At the present time, Western Governors University is not accepting applications from persons living outside the United States (unless you are an active-duty U.S. serviceperson or spouse of a serviceperson stationed at an overseas U.S. installation)."
msganti, YES! Those are the exact steps you want to do... At max, you may be able to transfer 90 credits. I would recommend these two providers, mainly StraighterLine and Study.com for max transfer. The other reason I recommend both of those is because of the discounts associated with SL/SDC. See my posts in this thread on the other sister forum: The posts are under my other Alias of bjcheung77 https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-Of-these-courses-which-can-I-complete-from-Straighterline-Saylor-for-WGU-before-July?pid=290572#pid290572
Thanks AsianStew for the information. My question really is - how much time we get between the evaluation and completing the credits elsewhere?
You can apply to them, and get an initial evaluation from them. While waiting, continue to work on your StraighterLine and Study.com courses, you just don't want to enroll until all your transferable courses are evaluated. It takes them at least a week but I would give it another week to be safe... they have monthly rolling starts, so you can start at the 1st of each month. I would again, transfer 90 credits to them in total, and then enroll when all is completed.
