My brother just graduated from the Oklahoma State University College of Health Sciences as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) and matched into an ER Residency that he began 3 days ago. I wish I could get him to get on this forum and get him to give his input on this particular topic because, as is obvious, he is pretty knowledgeable in this area whereas I am not. All that said, I have discussed with him his thoughts on Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners and he has stated that he feels that they fill a gap that physicians cannot fill. More and more medical students are striving for specialties that give them the ability to go to work and then go home without worry of getting called in or having paper work after the clinic closes. These PAs and NPs are filling the holes in rural family medicine that needs filled.

Thank you so much for your help. All of your points are valid and appreciated. We have done years of research on the PA program and had preferred schools in mind. However, as I've noted previously, our circumstances have changed forcing us to reconsider our plans. Thanks again.

Appreciate everyone who was kind enough to lend your invaluable thoughts. My daughters and I thank you as well, for your words of comfort. We hope we can emerge from our recent unexpected, untimely, loss stronger, better and more capable than we were before. It is, as you might imagine, difficult to find myself the sole parent of three young ladies. But, here I am. Helping them achieve their dreams and aspirations is my main focus, at this point. Thanks again for helping me do exactly that.
