A life-changing surprise gift yesterday for the graduating class of 2019 at Morehouse College in Atlanta. Commencement speaker Robert F. Smith, a hedge fund billionaire with stakes particularly in enterprise software companies, announced that his family is making a donation to pay off student loans for every graduate in the class. "We're gonna put a little fuel in your bus," he put it.

Morehouse College is the all-male Historically Black College that's awarded more bachelor's degrees to African-American men than any other school in the country. Alumni include Martin Luther King Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, and Spike Lee.

The graduation ceremonies at both Morehouse and other HBCU's in Atlanta were targeted by one of America's funniest comedy troupes, the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, KS. According to The Hill at https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/443963-westboro-baptist-church-to-protest-at-spelman-morehouse-and:
I, of course, find the story hysterical, solely on the basis of Westboro's slogan, "Check the neck!" Now that's damn funny. I see the potential of updating the Tom Hanks TV series Bosom Buddies, to be about a straight woman who wants to live with her boyfriend when he goes to Morehouse. She claims that she is actually a guy in a biologically female body, the school admits her (or is it him?) as a transgendered student, and they live happily ever after in the dorm. S/he even gets a degree in the bargain.
But I digress . . . Ah, well, check the neck!

Congratulations! Graduating is a big deal especially when student loan has been incurred.. The student loan forgiveness is cool - Maybe for once in their lives they felt like being wealthy - the burden of student loans have disappeared- only the feelings that rich kids experience at graduation. It took me 10 years of sacrifice and pain.
