I do not support this accreditation agency:

TRACS mostly accredit private religious schools.
    • Transworld Accrediting Commission Intl. (TAC)
Even though this agency is not affiliated with the US department of Education. What are the risks that this agency holds by accrediting none secular schools that choose not to receive funds from state or government loans? Is it a terrible thing to choose not too?

Do you have any convincing reason?

Truth be told, I don't like it either. I don't like their Biblical fundamentalism or their requiring that the schools they accredit teach things like a literal 6-day creation. I don't believe that a TRACS degree in something like Religious Studies has much credibility.

But having said that, I expect that they are a reasonably credible accreditor of what they accredit: hard-core Protestant fundmentalist Bible programs. If one can accept those decidedly cramped intellectual and faith boundaries, then I have no real reason to doubt that TRACS schools teach that material to an acceptable (to them) standard.

I seem to recall you attacking ATS because you didn't think that their schools were Biblical enough. (A hard argument to make regarding Dallas Theological Seminary.) So my reason for not liking TRACS almost certainly isn't yours.

So what are your reasons for not supporting TRACS?

I don't support TRACS fully given that those who obtain degrees from them assume their degrees are fully accredited. I must say that I see nothing wrong with a major in religious studies, it is strictly for that profession. I'm not fully against ATS I'm against those who graduated from ATS schools that frown upon people who are alumni as elitist from them. I Believe in having a balanced perspective.

Where are you getting your information? TRACS is on the USDoE list. Says so here:http://www.tracs.org/TRACS_about_2.html And it is also recognized by CHEA - as a Faith-Based National Accreditor. Ergo, it's a 100% "real" accreditor for religious schools, whether one believes in what its accredited member schools teach or not. (And I don't, just so you know.)

I don't have any problem with a school that does not participate in government student loan programs. Schools are free to make their choice on this. One school that has chosen this route is University of the People. They are tuition-free, but charge about $100 per exam. A bachelor's degree in business or IT can be earned for about $4,000 total. They also have a scholarship program that helps students who cannot afford even this low rate. Why would they (UoTP) need to participate in government funding? Their students can graduate debt-free without it.

Falseteacher pulled a switch in the middle of his post from talking about TRACS (Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools) to talking about something called TAC (Transworld Accrediting Commission).

So he did. Missed that - wasn't expecting it. TWACI or TAC is unrecognized by either USDoE or CHEA.

But … (drum roll) it IS recognized by the IRS! It's clearly posted on their site: "IRS Federal Recognition No. 72-1226053." Believe as you wish, faith-wise, but don't EVER mess with those guys! :)

I'm guessing that's the only Federal agency that recognizes TWACI / TAC. They're well-represented on lists of unrecognized accreditors. For schools TWACI /TAC accredits, participation in government student loan programs isn't a choice. They just flat can't, by law. Need recognized accreditation for that.

    I think your confusing
    • Transworld Accrediting Commission Intl. (TAC) with (TRACS).
Transworld Accrediting Commission International was what I was referring to in the beginning there was no switch. If there, was confusion I apologize on my behalf. I misappropriated the acronym (TRACS) with (TAC).

If you tap on their "member organizations" at TAC, it still lists Andersonville there (though it's not listed on Andersonville's website any longer).

Cela University is one of their members and you can "sing up" online.

Just looking at a few of their schools... this stuff is better than TV these days.

I just looked on their website of ATS as a member but it also says "inactive" because they are no longer with them. [IMG]

False Teacher: Your attack on TRACS and TRACS schools is unwarranted. You might not like TRACS and TRACS schools, but tough luck. But there are some people who like conservative fundamentalist schools. And TRACS, though it was a little millish in their early days (they were founded by the Institute for Creation Research for the purposes of accrediting themselves), they have changed in to legitimate accreditation agency recognized by either the Council for higher Education Accreditation or the Department of Education or maybe both (I forget which). So they are legit. I you don't like TRACS and TRACS schools, the solution is that you have the right to choose not to go to a TRACS school. But people who do like their theology conservative do have the right to go to TRACS schools. And you, sir, were the one who was trying to create confusion betwee the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools (a legit accreditation agency) and the Transworld Accredition Commission (an accreditation mill).

No I wasn't trying to confuse the two of them. I already know the legitimacy of TRACCS as a recognizable accreditation agency by the U.S Dept of education and I support them. I have already said that I have mistakenly misused the acronym of TRACCS recognized by the U.S Department of Education vs Transworld Accreditation Commission. I will say it again that I have misrepresented by mistake and I apologize for it This post can be removed by you as a senior officer. I welcome it because I sincerely made a mistake.
