The principle of work-based learning is to build courses around the working and training practices of particular industries, sectors or employers so that the learning that occurs every day as part of your normal training and practice can be assessed and recognised in an academic framework without the need for unnecessary duplication. In this way, this degree programme makes it possible to gain an honours degree at the same time as completing the requirements for a professional body membership.

Studying on this professional and work-based learning programme will enable you to negotiate work activities and projects with your employer/workplace mentor that will count towards the achievement of your degree. This means that to undertake the programme you will need to be employed (or in unpaid work) in an engineering capacity on a construction site. Work-based activities and projects that you negotiate will provide evidence of your learning in the workplace towards the successful completion of the degree.

Read that three years in a field is the equivalent of a bachelors degree in that field.
