Is it just me, or is he boldly predicting the present?

"Corporate certifications are on the rise, such as Cisco Certified Network Associate and Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert." Yes, and there's a great new band called the Foo Fighters....

"It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future."

Maybe he listened to Yogi and took the safe route.

Or, he's looking not to great changes but to how increased globalization will, in his view, force adjustments onto the survivors existing institutions.

On my current ongoing assignment, literally every student comes to school with a cell phone, and sneaks every moment possible during the day to look at it. Frequent complaints that come up in class are "Why do we even need to learn this, when we can just Google it at any time?!" I'm absolutely 100% not joking when I tell you this- that about 2 weeks ago, a class of high school seniors were absolutely dumbfounded by an assignment asking them to locate points on a map by their coordinates. Some of them actually thought that the degrees on the map were referring to temperature, and some of them actually couldn't understand how rivers could run north, when north is obviously higher than south.

Sorry, you're probably wondering what point I'm trying to make. When our smartphones or smartwatches or smartearrings have the ability to "know" things for us, there is a mighty struggle to figure out both what people really need to learn, and, how to convince people that they really need to learn it. Grade schools will have to find a way to address that question and universities will be inheriting their product.

How universities will respond, which is probably the most relevant point I could make to the actual topic of this thread- meh. I dunno. Maybe they won't change a bit and less and less people will be fit to either attend or finish.

As to the maps, I like looking at globes to see much flat maps have skewed my view of things. Those dumbfounded students may be a lost cause.

The smarter the phone the less smart the user? Maybe that singularity stuff won't be as expected.

The schools can always grade inflate everyone through.
