I will pass on distance education from NOKO. However, I will never underestimate the quality of the education.

Eeeeeeh, the likelihood that anything good comes out of it is the same as the likelihood that anything good ever comes out of North Korea.

I'm sure that their "internet" is not THE internet that we're using right now, but their own secluded, strictly monitored and extremely limited network. No way to get there from here and vice versa.

You probably get to major in Juche Studies. Not for me. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Juche_Idea

Yes - I don't doubt that the one they use for online school is a private, cloaked deal - the entire country only has two connections to the "outside" - but North Korea has seriously good HACKING schools that produce elite Government HACKERS who get extra pay and perks. They know how to mess with the Internet (as we know it) anywhere and any way they want!

One of many excellent articles on North Korean Hacking here:

That is one of the main reason, not to underestimate their education and capabilities. They have shown that they are capable of doing advanced work with very little.

Very capable - provided it's evil - preferably involving nuclear weapons, cyber-destruction or other mayhem. Things like feeding their people - don't seem to matter too much to the Government.

North Korea - decent people, evil Government. (A common problem, but a particularly severe case, here. Not the only severe case, though. Tragically frequent.)

And as far as doing things with very little - the only skimping is in the payroll. If they need equipment or other resources to shoot people, build bombs or destroy websites etc - the Government will pay handsomely for it - in US dollars, Cryptocurrency, diamonds or whatever is called for. They get what they need. Only exception: computer malware. They build better malware than they can buy. Theirs is the best (or worst, perhaps.)

The idea of having to attend a required residency in Noko is a little (ok, a lot) scary.

But it sounds like some aspects of North Korean university life might be very familiar. The story says:

"The more common your parents are, and the more rural the area you come from, the more difficult the better universities in Pyongyang are to get into. Famous universities and popular departments are a rarified territory enjoyed by those in power and with the money," the defector added.

Replace 'Pyongyang' with "Cambridge, Massachusetts." or "Stanford, California" and that could be the US. Even Noko has its local Ivy League.

From the article: "In May 2017, hackers unleashed the WannaCry attack that took down computers in 150 countries, using a cybertool that a top US intelligence agency lost."
How the hell did this "top U.S. Intelligence Agency" manage to lose such a formidable cybertool - and have it fall into N. Korean hands? Has anybody been called to account? OML! Has anyone on our side "lost" any hydrogen bombs lately?
Yeah - the Poison Ivy League. According to articles referenced in this thread, NK's two most prestigious Universities, Kim Il Sung University and Kim Chaek University of Technology are cranking out hackers in pretty substantial numbers.
Degrees like Bachelor of Missile Launching, Master of Malware, I'll bet...
