Here are the three finalists -- representing a total departure in design. Your vote will be appreciated. Thanks. John Bear

Is Ric charging you a fee to appear on these covers? I voted for number two although I actually like the design of number one better. However, one leaves you with the impression that Ric is Bear.

Of course, this could be a case such as Magnum PI where Robin Masters is actually Higgins. Mayber Bear is actually Ric Walston {GRIN}.

  3. I voted "None of the above." I liked the naked (and seemingly demented) Bear cover.

I think the picture of Greenwich University diploma may be a little inflammatory. Even with John Bear's signature on it!

I'm with Kristin on both points.

Good lord, it is Rick (Josh) Walston. And his Greenwich (and, presumably next to it, his Potch) diploma.

And I have no doubt that if Gert examined the microtype in the mustache hairs with his pocket electron microscope, he'd find clear evidence of the validity of everything said about me on the a.e.d. newsgroup.

I am very glad I posted this poll, if for no other reason.

The new design has a more professional and academic look. Ditto's on the departure.

The only problem I foresee is when Steve Levicoff sees the Greenwich University diploma, reflects on the fact that GU is neither RA nor does it require a 35 day residency, then begins to respond. <grin>

Speaking of electron microscopes, what the heck is the guy in the right column photo on #6 doing with his hands?

Maybe it's meant to illustrate that many people are able to multitask while engaging in online learning. Might as well make efficient use of your time, no? [IMG]

Seriously though -- I voted for the second one, but I also like the first one.

I voted for none of the above, I still like naked demented bears too. Also, the people on the covers don't look stressed enough/bored enough to be involved in the education process. They look like they're doing crossword puzzles or surfing the web for porn.

    Mike Goldberg,
Expecting B.S.E.E. December 2002, and is currently spending more time commuting to class than being in class. Dang ol' ABET lab requirements!

Indeed, the cover needs the flavor of political correctness. So on cover #2 we already have:

    1. Age diversity (young/middle/older than middle)
    2. Gender diversity (Male/Female)
    3. Mammal diversity (Human/Bear)

So it would really be nice if we had:

    1. Ethnic diversity (black/white/asian/etc)
    2. Political diversity (democrat/republican/totalitarian/etc)
    3. Socio-Economic diversity (rich/poor/all the rest)
    4. Religious diversity (Christian/Buddhist/etc)
    5. Sexual diversity (hetero/homo/trans/etc/etc/etc/etc/etc/etc)
    6. Ecological diversity (greenpeace/big oil)
    7. Animal rights diversity (NRA/hog farm owners/vegetarians)
    8. Academic diversity (DL/traditional)
    9. Accreditation diversity (RA/NA/GAAP/Mill)

But if we have all this diversity, where will you place the title of the book, John? <grin>

I think that a combination of com4.jpg and comp5.jpg will make the most sense. It will show that DL is for people of all ages, sexes, and races. Comp4.jpg is missing the face of an elderly person and comp5.jpg is missing the picture of a person of color.

Yesterday I sent copies of all three proposed covers to the FBI X-Files Lab in Washington, DC. You guys aren't going to believe what Scully and Mulder found.

    1. Ric Walston, Steve Levicoff and John Bear are one in the same.
    2. Their respective physical addresses (California, Washington State and an anonymous Canadian school) are all P.O Boxes.
    3. All of "their" degrees are either forged or fake.
    4. The individual spent time in a Norfolk Island psychiatric hospital suffering from multiple personality disorder.
    5. The individual has no resemblance to a human being, but looks very similar to a large brown bear.
    6. When taken into custody, the bear was wearing a Dalai Lama T-Shirt, chanting "I am the god of academe."

    Hee Hee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just a little Friday fun, guys!

    Blahhh!?!?!

How about a polar bear or a koala or a group of different bears.

It does make you think that the guy on the cover is John unless you have looked at http://circledance.tripod.com .

And as to Davis v. simon, now there we could use Nun of the Above again (old Bay Area joke).

Get rid of the hirsute guy, put a young woman (30) on the cover.

Mike: And as to Davis v. simon, now there we could use Nun of the Above again (old Bay Area joke).

John: Where is Sister Boom-Boom, now that we need her, uh, him.* Which brings to mind, on Russell's list of diversity, especially from a Berkeley publisher, we need at least gay and lesbian.

(Two folks from a university in Nebraska came to visit earlier this year. They had only one evening free, and had not been to the San Francisco area, and hoped for a show of some kind. It was a Monday when most things are closed. Apart from a few poetry readings, the only events seemed to be a show at a transgender country and western club and an A's game. They said, "We're from rural Nebraska. We'll take the ballgame.")

I don't really care for any of them, but I voted for #2, as it is the best of them all.

I too fall into the "voted for number two but didn't really like any of them" category. Of the covers given, I liked number two. However, I do like the nice and simple cover that my copy of the guide from 1998 has.

If change is not avoidable, I'd go for #2 (which I voted for). If this is just to float the idea of a new cover, I'd have voted none of the above (I also like the demented bear).

Did anyone consider a shot or two showing the other side of DL? Something like Ron Pellar in his orange prison jumpsuit, or the Love Doctor getting ambushed by Good Morning America.....

  19. I think degreeinfo posters should send in photographs. The most photogenic gets to be on cover.

(I am sure to win, with my Tom Cruise looks and Junior Seau build.)
