This tantalizing 'aside' from one of the summary articles on the snipers:

"The Seattle Times reported that a Tacoma mechanic identified Muhammad as 'a broker in the sale of fake identification.' He said he had negotiated to buy a set of fake documents, which included a passport and a visa, so he could drive after losing his license for a DUI conviction."

No mention of degrees. One wonders.

Nahhhhh . . . Since he's a black and a Muslim, if he showed someone a degree, they would automatically know it was fake.

Okay, before the protests start, I should mention that I'm a good ol' liberal who has taught African-American Studies, and I'm proud of my appreciation for cultural diversity. But how could I resist the opportunity for such a juicy response - which, I assure you, is only the first tasteless ethnic joke I have made all year.

  3. A Reuter's story on the ABC website:
Sniper Suspect Smuggled Aliens, Sold Fake IDs-Paper
"John Allen Muhammad, suspected in this month's Washington, D.C., sniper shootings, sold fake identities and smuggled aliens into the United States to fund his extensive travel, the Seattle Times reported on Thursday. Muhammad may have used Adobe Photoshop imaging software to forge documents, including the 22 different identities he possessed, along with stolen credit cards and fake passports, an Antiguan investigator on the case told the newspaper."

A Seattle Times article with more details is at http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/134566498_antigua31m0.html It mentions counterfeit passports and stolen credit cards

  4. Whoops, hit submit too soon. The article also mentions the good ole "international driver's license" (part of the package he was offering to the Tacoma mechanic for $3000) -- but no diplomas.

Google News -- a great resource.

sure would have been funny if he had a K-W degree...

  6. He may not have sold fake degrees, but it appears that he used one as the following article reveals: Sniper suspect's secret trail led to Antigua.

    Snippet:
    • ... But Muhammad also plowed a trail of deceit, forged documents and alleged fraud, according to records and interviews. He applied for a job coaching at government schools, but his credentials were rife with errors. One example: On a college diploma, the word Louisiana, as in Louisiana State University, is misspelled. ...
