In the photos, I see zero guns.

That photo is in New York City. Is it legal to wear guns in the open in New York City? Most places that allow CCW permits require the gun(s) to be concealed, but the laws vary from state-to-state.

Selectively, as with armored car (Brinks, for instance) personnel.

He who asserts, must prove. In this case the assertion is that Hogg travels with armed bodyguards. So far, there's no proof.

That's the way it always works. The elites always seem to claim privileges and exemptions that more typical people would never receive. And Hogg has been inducted into the elites, at least temporarily as long as he's useful.

How was David Hogg selected as the face of an entire movement and by whom? He apparently was just some kid who worked on the school newspaper at his high-school. Then suddenly he was giving fiery (and faintly fascistic) speeches, his snarling face was all over TV, and he was off on speaking tours. Now he's got an almost certainly ghost-written book out. How did all that happen? Why didn't anything similar happen to kids at the school who were more supportive of the 2'd Amendment?

I can guess. The MSM "journalists" (increasingly synonymous with 'propagandists') descended on this school after the shooting and they already had their "narratives" fixed in their minds. They just needed illustrations, they needed somebody to give it a human face for the TV cameras. So where did they look first for their talking-head? Among the student "journalists" of course. Like is attracted to like. And there was Hogg. So he was it, he was quoted, he got his first TV interviews, and off it went. He moved on from being a 'high-school kid' and became a 'celebrity' and even a supposed 'authority' on 2'd Amendment issues.

Hogg reportedly admitted it in an email to a reporter, saying: "The people alongside me were trained specialists that had gone through training with their weapons..."

Isn't that at the center of the movement? Only highly-trained professionals who have gone through extensive background checks should be allowed to have certain weapons and that regular folks shouldn't have more powerful weapons than the police? I don't think I've heard anti-gun people say that licensed, armed guards shouldn't exist.

Sanantone, did the forefathers of the Constitution insert the 2nd Amendment to give the government the power to license security guards or to ensure that the rights of the people to be armed would not be infringed? In your explanation, David Hogg hired his own militia.

    David Hogg, several months ago.

He's been very consistent about his point. He wants increased gun control, but he's not anti-guns for self defense and personal use.

Maniac's post should clear up any of your willful misrepresentations of Hogg's position on the issue.

Sanantone, thank you for complimenting Maniac Craniac, but you did not answer the question. Here are gun control proposals that David Hogg is pushing:
    • Ban single shot rifles e.g. AR15
    • Prohibit magazines that carry X number of bullets.
    • Require federal background checks when selling, giving or bequeathing (inheritance) guns to sons, fathers or other family members.
    • Put an additional 10% tax on the sale of all guns.
    • Change federal law to raise age to 21 to possess a gun. The military allows enlistment at 18.

Well, if all this thread is going to be is deflection and circumvention, we might as well just stop the discussion here and just take turns complementing me. Who wants to go next?

I can't help but thinking that this very strange kid would look perfectly at home in an SS uniform.

But look at his eyes. There's a strange mix of resentment, fanaticism and suffering in there. I suspect that this might have been a skinny nerdy kid that was bullied, and now he's a national star, he doesn't really know quite how to handle it and it's going to his head. He's only 18. Reminds me of a Greek tragedy.

But... whatever the truth of that, Hogg is a high-school kid. An armed security detail accompanying him must cost serious money. So who is paying the bill?

We'll consider that once you have learned the difference between complementing and complimenting. :p

Mmmm... while I don't agree with his politics, there's no one on Earth who wouldn't look silly if photographed at the right moment. I'll pass on this one.

Heirophant, that's an outstanding question that no reporter has researched. Who is footing the bill for Hogg's armed security detail?

The kid may be on the wrong side of the issue - but he has guts.

None of that is in the Constitution. We have freedom of speech, but even certain forms of speech aren't protected. Many states require documents that cost money for voter registration.

The military allows enlistment at 17. You can't even buy a handgun until 21 or a long gun until 18.

Sanantone, which law is violated in any of the following scenarios (please post a link to the law):
    • A father sells his 18 year old son a handgun.
    • Two neighbors are best friends and are novice gun enthusiasts. One sells the other (who is 18) his handgun.
    • A novice gun owner advertises to sell his handgun (in the newspaper or on the internet) - and then sells it to an 18 year old buyer.
All of the above may currently be done legally and without government oversight or intervention. However, David Hogg wants to make it all illegal by putting it under exclusive government control.
