I'm torn between these two programs. They are both practical programs, they both look similar in content, they are both priced roughly the same at 10K GBP (Band B fees for the QMUL MBA). The Durham MA has even two in-person seminars included. For me it seems, it's a very close call between the two when you consider:

    - Durham is triple accredited and well ranked
    - Queen Mary University of London isn't accredited/ranked as good as Durham but is part of the University of London system which is prestigious, the university as a whole is well ranked in the world (121)
    - The MBA from QMUL is new vs the MA from Durham which has been running for years, though UoL has more 100 years experience in DL
    - Durham is a MA vs MBA for QMUL

    1. Which one do you think will more resonate more with Canadian and US recruiters (tech and multi-national companies?
    2. Will the QMUL have an edge because of "University of London" instant brand name recognition?
    3. Also do you think having an MBA will take me farther in the long run vs a MA?

Any feedback would be appreciated :)

That's kind of like asking "What size is a gray suit?"

It very much depends on what you want to do with the degree. If securing a job with a corporation in the US or Canada is your goal, then a US or Canadian program could be better for you, as many recruiters will want something more recognizable (to them) than Durham or Queen Mary, and there's a good chance they won't even understand business school accreditation. This could be especially so if you don't reside in the UK.

I'm doing a part time PhD at Durham, commuting from S. Europe, happy to answer all your questions if you ping me directly. Obviously I'm biased towards Durham.

Leaving the specific programs aside, regarding overall Uni rep, I say Durham hands down as it has a much better rep (esp in the UK, EU and MENA). In the US or LatAM, chances are few ppl if any know either program or school. Given the Canadian / UK special relationship, I'd have to say they in general have a better understanding of the UK Unis more than the US, as Durham is the better overall ranked UK Uni, it probably is regarded better than Queen Mary.

I don't see the UoL system as a differentiating factor at all as like any large Uni system, there are good and bad programs.

Between the two programs, in my opinion, an MBA seems to hold more weight than a MA but MBA students / alums tend to be more specific MBA rankings obsessed than MA individuals.

Also, a non-accredited program may be written off immediately by any employer who digs a bit into it.

Thanks JP007, I'm leaning toward Durham as the better value with triple accreditation, long standing program, low-cost all inclusive tuition fees, residential seminars at no additional fees and the university's rich history and ranking. The UoL MBA sounds great but the program is too new and too large (recipe for messiness).
