Hello everyone, I have been searchig high and low for an accredited online college math with NO PROCTORED exams. I'm trying to get my AA degree in Social Sciences from Mission College, and all I need is college algebra. It would mean the world to me if I could get some help.

    Thanks!

If I remember correctly Western International University doesn't do proctored exams. They are simply timed and can be done at home without supervision. Their RA as well so it hopefully will transfer in.

They've been pushed to 1/31/2017 - however when the poster asked for ACCREDITED, I'm going to assume that it means through an accredited college? If not, ALEKS is certainly ACE Evaluated, which will transfer to some colleges - nothing proctored.

Check out the college algebra offerings of both Empire State College and Excelsior College.

Everyday Math (Math 101?) at Excelsior doesn't need proctoring. It satisfied my Algebra requirement.

Questioner: So you're looking for an algebra course, eh?

Respondent: Yes, I need that one course to complete my degree.

Questioner: Here's a well-regarded course from a school with recognized accreditation. You work through the course materials, and at the end, there is a two-hour written examination. You take it in a local classroom along with other students.

    Respondent: Terrific. Sounds perfect.

Questioner: But there's one more thing. While you are taking the exam, there will be an elderly retired professor sitting at the front of the room, keeping an eye on things.

Respondent: No way! That I absolutely will not do!

Questioner: Interesting. May I ask why?

Respondent: (please fill in blank) ___________________________________________________

Maybe they are handicapped and cannot get to a proctored site. I have a sick buddy who cannot take proctored exams because they need constant life support.

Respondent: I would be happy to take the exam if you can ensure that my life support system will work. It takes a whole day to prep for the trip, an other day to return. Are you sure the proctor will be there, there are sufficient power plugs, my equipment will fit around my bed?

I do understand. Jade is a beautiful rock.

Yes, of course. However, there are also ways to proctor exams such as Skype, webcam, etc.

While others hack at the branches, this strikes the root.

When I was doing my own undergraduate studies, my courses often required proctored tests and I didn't mind. It just so happens that I am familiar with some schools that do not have proctored tests; they are in fact open book, but timed. This is just my experience but I think it is extremely rare that the students cheat on these, or if they do have helpers, their helpers are not too good at it because the grades they get on the final are not often better than what they get on other work throughout the course. I do agree with the question asked by John Bear though. It raises a flag of concern if students consider it to be a huge deal that the tests are not proctored. If nothing strange is going on, it should not matter whether somebody is there to monitor the test-taker.

During my nine years of involvement with the Heriot-Watt University/Edinburgh Business School MBA, which required nine 3-hour proctored exams, thankfully the Scots thrived on the challenge of complicated exam situations: the sailor on a nuclear sub under the polar ice cap (the Captain proctored), the sole literate person in a remote Siberian village (they found an Orthodox Priest two villages away), the 100% paralyzed woman (but she could operate a letter generator through eye motion; they gave her extra time). One of the few they rejected was a missionary couple on a tiny South Pacific island, the only English speakers, they said, who proposed that they proctor each other.

Proctored exams require finding a testing center and arranging a time. This will often involve taking off from work because the administrative offices and people assigned to proctor exams in most university testing centers keep normal 9 to 5 hours. That would be a major pain to a working adult, so I can understand how the OP could have a legitimate reason. But in deference to John, I understand his point completely, the post sounds fishy in the extreme. I teach online (unproctored exams, as that's my school's policy) and onground, have had about 6 times as many instances of academic fraud (that I caught) in the online environment.

I had proctored exam recently, I took exam at home.
I had to position the webcam in a way that the proctor can see my screen and my hands and myself, the microphone sensitivity was adjusted so the can hear the surrounding environment. It was closed book, no notes even no pencil and paper allowed.
Special software was used, disabling some functionality and other measures.
The exam was 120 min. It was challenging but based on materials studies in the class. If you made all the assignments and exercises you were positioned to pass.

Hi Anthony! I am in the exact same situation. Have you found somewhere to take the math course with no proctor ?

Sorry Corey, Anthony hasn't visited the site since the day he posted his original question one year ago.
