I wonder what the chances are of them operating a legitimate postsecondary institution this time round. You've got to admit that the web designer is talented as hell. I visited other fully accredited schools websites and they looked as if they were designed in the 80s.

Millish chat box..Lol. I'm just eager to see if they will be capable of receiving accreditation. I have yet to see anything on the website...DEAC, ASIC, etc..

Actually, PCU was accredited by ASIC for a while. About 40 days.

As crazy as that sounds, that must mean that they were at least legitimate at one time. The only downfall to that is they were a domestic university accredited by a foreign accreditor. Atlantic International University is still ridiculed since they went with an accreditor recognized by The Council rather than the USDE. Only option as of now...DEAC

If you say so. ASIC describes itself as an international accreditor but has no remit outside the UK. As far as accreditation goes, it's meaningless as I see it. As a business idea, it's bloody brilliant.

Hey - at least it isn't IAO. You'd gain more respect taking a MOOC course.

I hope you're not talking about MOOCs like they're a bad thing, Charles. A lot of them are organized by extremely well-respected institutions and often serve as an integral part of degree programs. Certificates from many are translatable into degree credit. We have lots of threads on MOOCs and regular members, including our distinguished Moderator, Bruce, have MOOC participation(s) in their sig. lines.

Oh, of course not. I've been known to take MOOC courses for leisure. However, I prefer ALISON rather than Coursera; there are no time restraints. Nothing better than a MOOC and a glass of red wine. It helps my cognitive thinking :)

Back to California Pacific. Website is down completely. End of an era? Who knows. Looks like it might be.

So it's now run by a university from the Philippines ? Tandoc University?

Something is definitely odd here. The school claims:

    (1) BPPE approval,
    (2) accreditation by an unrecognized accreditor (IAO?) AND
    (3) accreditation by ACICS, an agency just de-recognized by the USDoE AND
    (4) accreditation by ACCSC ? ? ?

    See for yourself...CPU | Recognitions

    Whoa! ......

Yes - and this appears to be an ill-conceived end-run past the Abatement Order of the BPPE.
Won't work. Just moving the website, claiming nonexistent BPPE approval and IAO accreditation(?) plus two real accreditations it doesn't have? How amateurish.

How far a school has fallen. One that was well-regarded for almost four decades. It's best the founder is no longer with us, to see this travesty.

No. I don't think Tandoc U. is running anything at this point. Tandoc U. looks extinct. No website, Facebook page with nothing on it - 4 likes.

CPU owner shows a California address. His name is on the BPPE Abatement Order, linked in a previous post. Plenty of info on him on the Internet, if you're interested. I've read enough...

I've no proof of this, but possibly Tandoc (Philippines) was operated by the same person / group and he/they missed changing the name when re-using old Tandoc web-lingo for the hastily-reconstructed CPU site. Serial founders of schools have made this mistake before.

Just in case someone tries to pull a quick change - here's something from CPU's website - today.

"California Pacific University is accredited by the International Accreditation for Online Schools, Colleges & Universities, Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, and by The Accrediting Commission for Colleges & Schools. California Pacific University is approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Administration and by the U.S. Department of Defense in order to provide the U.S. Military, active and retirees with the type of education they need."

Although I'm sure it'll get archived anyway, I've saved a full copy of the entire site. You never know....
