Anyone who deliberately refuses to abide by the Terms of Service is subject to disciplinary measures by the Moderators. Commonly members are warned, sometimes repeatedly, when this occurs and also commonly this is sufficient. You, Steve, or anyone else may question these decisions as you like.

Needlessly sexist statement, and that's with certainty from that very quote, unlike the unsubstantiated, ridiculous racism claim you made.

Of course to a person who would say something like that quote above, I'm sure you believe sexism is only something men can press onto a woman, smh. There are a lot more women here than you think. I'm sure if a guy had said "there is too much estrogen on this forum" the gates of hell would open up.

But I'm an "idiot", lol, okay...

Amazing the things people say here and the pitchforks don't come out, but anything I say gets twisted, reinvented, and blown up into something else. Amazing.

I should interject to be clear here - presumably, Neuhaus is referring to Steve F’s comments in the other thread, not to me, since I made no such comments. (I only mention that since I was the one to post in this thread.)

My policy is as it has always been - I never get involved in discussions about politics, religion, race, sex, or sports. I developed that policy when I went into trucking, and I have to admit that some of y'all are acting like truckers in this thread.

But, FWIW, I will opine on one thing: I'm with you, April. Rifleman was offensive as hell. But you shouldn't let your buttons be pushed so easily - your post to him is enough to get you banned by this board's standards. Instead, learn the art of how to slice and dice someone with wit and eloquence, making them look as pathetic as they, indeed, are. People who allow their buttons to be pushed too easily end up making asses of themselves. (If you want a great example of that, look at Rich. He can never resist responding to a jab, and even he went ballistic enough to actually get banned.)

Also FWIW, I was once banned from this board - it's no big whoop. And believe me, I'm not kissing the butts of the moderators when I say that no one moderator makes that kind of decision when it comes to regular users - they discuss it as a group, process whatever issue is at hand, and make a group decision.

Remember that all V-Bulletin forums have a back channel – a forum visible only to the moderators, where administrative matters are discussed and to which general members do not have access. (Remember when DLT managed to hack the mod forum at DD and posted the contents of it openly? They had the means to blow DD to hell at that point but instead became chickenshits.) Rich’s banning may have been instigated by one mod (and, IMO, was justified), but I assure y’all that it was discussed before it went into effect.

Also remember that that moderators hold a variety of political positions, ranging from very liberal to very conservative. You’ll see Hillary and the Donald trashed equally on this board. All in all, this board tolerates diverse views, although people sometimes go over the edge. Personally, I think that anyone who posts tacky captioned photos should be banned, regardless of their content. But that’s because I dislike things that are tacky and without class. But as for the mods having political opinions, it’s like the Supreme Court wrote with regard to students wearing offensive t-shirts: they do not leave their rights at the schoolhouse gate, nor should moderators have to leave their rights at the gates of the forum.

I also wish that a distance education forum would stick to what it does best – distance education, that off-topic discussions would not exist at all, and that threads would never get hijacked. But you bozos (that means all of you) obviously need to mouth off with your wonderfully diverse opinions, and all thread will be subject to hijacking because of the nature of the medium. And I will continue to tune in merely for the entertainment although I can’t be bothered with any of you. Because, as always, I am the only one here who continues to be perfect.

(Get the message? Stop taking yourselves so seriously. If I took myself that seriously, I wouldn’t find any of this as funny as I do. And I do.)

Neuhaus, I enjoy your posts and have a good deal of respect for your presence on DI and elsewhere in general (this also goes for Dr.² Rich - as my original post was somewhat tongue-in-cheek). Now, perhaps we could create a "Racial fetish" thread somewhere and get some folks involved (PsyD and such..), this would be interesting.

Agreed. But you could have a leather fetish - it is an object. The attraction of one particular skin tone does not meet this definition.

I can't make a full response at the moment, but I will say that the wiki article you linked is not the greatest. Of the 16 references, there is only one that is from JSTOR and couple of other reputable places, but many come from places like Salon, and the bulk of the article discusses "Art and Media" which is really irrelevant.

Instead, I would direct you to the much more reputable and sourced wiki page here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_fetishism. There you will see a precise definition of sexual fetishism, including this gem: The ICD-10 definition is still limited to non-living objects.

I agree that this would be an interesting discussion. I don't have a strong opinion either way. I understand what people mean when they talk about a racial fetish.

Just to clarify, however, a fetish can involve an object. But it doesn't necessarily. Fetishes also cover intense attraction to activities (e.g. BDSM, smoking, abusive language etc). But from my reading what actually constitutes a fetish or a paraphilia isn't really readily defined because there is a general lack of consensus.

but it has been my experience that psychologists tend to steer clear of things unless they cause a person problems. You might be an introvert and that's OK. But if you become afraid to leave your house and can't hold down a job because of it then a therapist can try to intervene. If you just think people suck and spend your free time carving wood then it is likely not an issue.

In any case, I don't know if this forum is just begging for a thread for a discussion on whether attraction to a particular race can rise to the level of being a fetish. I just threw out these few posts because I can see what both sides of the argument are saying.

What if you were interested in doing business in India and saw such an organisation as an opportunity to make contacts? I appreciate your frustration routinely being hit on by men who don't interest you, but that doesn't mean there's no other reason to join such a group.

Did that happen at UIC, by chance? Sounds like some of the shenanigans I've witnessed on that campus.

Those of you who have followed my postings for years know that I'm generally low-key and mostly post complete nonsense for the laughs, but I do have my moments where I am rather outspoken. It's those moments of outspokenness that have gotten me banned on other forums. Well, actually, the complete nonsense for laughs has also gotten me banned.

Whether it has been your "nonsense for laughs" or your remarks on linguistics, your posts have been appreciated. Keep up the entertaining (and informative) work!

Obviously, Maniac, if you want to achieve banned status on DI - you're going to have to try just a wee bit harder. C'mon -- I'm sure you can do it!

Nobody has chosen yet to answer the original, burning question that started the thread. When is Rich's ban over? So I'll attempt to answer it. Rich's one-month ban was announced in the forum on July 19. For all I know, it may have occurred about a day earlier. So, I anticipate it would end around Aug. 18 or19.

I am taking no sides. Consider this a public service announcement for the fans of R.C.D.

There are, indeed, other burning questions that have yet to be addressed.

For example, what has Rich been doing during the ban? Is he sitting at home, contrite, crying his eyes out, missing all of his little DI friends? Or is he running around town getting drunk, taking solace in hookers, and shouting with glee, “Good riddance!” Has he found God, or is he depressed and contemplating suicide, perhaps becoming a martyr for DI?

After the ban has been completed, will he return with his tail between his legs, or will he get a case of the fuck-its and not return at all? Will he stay away permanently, or just long enough to keep us in suspense by teasing us with his continued absence?

If he does return, will it be in shame or in triumph? Will he still be a liberal, or will he have converted to Trump?

One thing we can assume: Rich has been following every word of this thread (because he has always been a glutton for punishment and abuse). And whether he reads it whilst crying his eyes out, laughing his ass off, or plotting his revenge, there are two words he deserves to hear now…

    Hi, Rich! :wavey:

Why would he return with his tail between his legs? Most of us feel like he did nothing wrong. I know, I know, you are just being silly.

Stay safe out there Dr. Levicoff!
