Is anybody else on LinkedIn? I'm thinking of increasing my networking efforts to get leads for some additional teaching contracts as well as just exchange information that could be helpful, and I've found the chat feature of LinkedIn to be pretty useful for quickly exchanging ideas.
Networking on LinkedIn takes a variety of forms. For starters you can actually see job postings that your connections post that you might otherwise have missed. You can also request recommendations and endorsements from former colleagues and managers. I, personally, don't like spending a lot of time on LinkedIn and I really only use it for recruiting purposes (which I don't do nearly as often in my present role as I did when I was a recruiter). I think of LinkedIn as a curated space like a museum. You walk into a museum and you want to see a lot of meaningful stuff. But you don't want it to be cluttered. That's a tough balance. I see a lot of people who have bare bones profiles (i.e. only their current job, no education etc). I see others who have entire novels written on the thing with every single course they took in college in addition to listing the degrees. You need to strike that balance between not enough and too much. I'm generally not a fan of adding people with whom I haven't worked. But there are many recruiters who will add anyone. This can be a mutually beneficial arrangement. Many self-employed (or employed by small firms) recruiters don't pay for LinkedIn Premium. So they can only search out to a 3rd tier connection. When they connect to someone with, say, 1k connections then they expand their search area significantly. You, meanwhile, get a recruiter who can view your profile and who is likely posting open positions. So there are ways to be strategic about it. Or you can just get glued to it and treat it like Facebook like many people are doing these days.
This would be great, maybe even see some unlisted jobs that are requested and filled before they are ever posted on a job board. Well I'm not up for adding just anyone, but if you're in online education please feel free to add me. For example I don't work directly with other adjuncts, but I would like to have them in my network. This site is awesome but I'm really missing some kind of chat functionality for more real-time communication.

how are data miners getting your linked In info? Heh, I published a post in linked In-apparently it was only sent to myself. It was about how to get your Linked In site in google. Minutes later, ,My linked In account was published, you could see it for a price from various background check sites. I am also seeing personal info being that probably came from my linked in account. I was thinking it keyloggers but I made the account with the demographic details at work, and the post I published here at home. Who you think it is? AM I BEING WATCHED?, OR IS IT just ME?
Hi, welcome to 2016. LinkedIn isn't stealing your information with a keylogger. They are, however, acquiring information on you and your behaviors when you use the site. Google does the same thing. What's more, Google sells access to you through targeted ads. As for "background check sites" these are data aggregators. They are pulling things from public records and combing the internet and offering to sell it to anyone with a credit card. It is insanely difficult to try to avoid them completely as almost everyone has a virtual footprint. I'm not sure why you are publishing articles about how to "get" your LinkedIn "in" Google when it seems you have little understanding about LinkedIn (it's all one word) or Google.
When I made the page, I only like sent out 1 contact from my email list. I guess I read what I was doing while I made the page and didn't allow a mail out to everyone in history. As a consequence, I have about 14 contacts with about 1 being added every day. About 10 people have looked at my page. About 10 people have read the stuff I published. So far I have gotten 1 email from someone I don't know. Its been a couple weeks now. My page is still not visible from google but I am not beating my head in over that any more so it's its all good.
After hanging around Degreeinfo long enough I would think it to be hard dealing in a place where soooo many people proudly and boldly list and boast about their fake diploma mill degrees. I'd personally have a hard time not exposing people left and right, lol.
