Credits for Harvard Extension School

Hi folks, I'm an international student looking to reduce costs of my education. I wonder if some of you guys know if I can transfer credits from Saylor University, University of the People, Open University... or any other similar place where I can get cheap to free credits to transfer then to Harvard Extension Studies (I'm allowed to transfer up to 16 courses/64 credits)

 

First, it is important to understand that the acceptance of transfer credit is always at the discretion of the receiving institution. The best any of us on this forum can do is make a "best guess". In any case, it appears unlikely that you can transfer University of the People credits into a Harvard Extension School degree:

"Courses completed at degree-granting colleges and universities that were regionally accredited when you attended."

University of the People is nationally accredited.

You may... may have some luck with the Saylor courses that are ACE approved:

"No transfer credit is accepted for vocational, paraprofessional coursework, life experience, or military training (unless approved by the American Council on Education (ACE) and the Admissions Office)."

The Open University is also a possibility, but you have the additional legwork of obtaining an international transcript evaluation.

Many folks tend view transfer credit as a black/white issue, but it's not. For example, you may have 80 college credits to your name and attempt to transfer them into a program and only receive 50 transfer credits. It could be because the course requirements for the program greatly differ from the courses you've completed, it could be because they limit the amount of transfer credit you are allowed to bring in, and on the list will go.

Simply stated, contact Harvard Extension School, or any school you are interested in, and talk about it. Otherwise, you may end up spinning your wheels in the mud.

 

Just to point out the Open University is Regionally Accredited by the Middle States Commission, so it may not require a foreign credit evaluation.
