Did you seriously just say this?

I've always said that I love the concept of the school, but absolutely hate the name. It sounds like the flagship university of North Korea.

I think I know what he meant; most of their students are from underdeveloped countries, which it seems they are.

The purpose of the school is excellent and the name feels like it was selected from the heart 'University Of The People'. It however, just doesn't sit as well as you would hope after saying it. Will be interesting if UOTP sounds better if they receive RA accreditation. :)

Well, it obviously was a bad idea to use that term. Just replace 'free' with 'democratic'.

That's almost what I meant, but there are also quite a few democratic underdeveloped countries. And then there are countries like Iran, were people from some religious minorities have no chance to go to college, simply because they happen to have the "wrong" religion. Many Communist countries did something similar. A person who openly disagreed with the party had no chance to go to college. I think that's why I used the term 'free world'.

I fully agree, but there are also some countries were that name sounds quite normal to most people.

    9118 students!!!

Wow!They just updated their student body count and it seems they have grown substantially from last year.Last I checked 2 months ago they were around 7000 students!

  6. I'm enrolled for the September term. So far, it's been the smoothest application process ever. Response on my emails are normally less than 24 hours. It seems as if they are working a few bugs out of the portal but that's no biggy. Yammer (never heard of it before) is being used for the students to "network" and meet each other. So far so good.

Are you doing the MBA or a different degree? You seem satisfied with them so far.Can you tell us a few things about your student experience with them? Also how come they have seen such a huge growth the past few months? Is it because their doing credit transfers or something?

@peacfulchaos2001 ... i heard that students have to do some deficiency courses before being formally enrolled into the MBA Program ... is it so?

  9. If you don't have a degree from an English speaking institution or (IIRC) don't score well enough on the English proficiency test then you have to take an English course. We all have to take "MBA Foundations". I wouldn't call it a deficiency course because (1) it's an actual graduate course and (2) it counts toward completion. It seems as if it's a trial semester. Instead of being able to take two courses they enroll you into one. If you pass you can then take two courses like normally. I think if you fail you're allowed to take it once more or you're dropped from the program.
