Hi Dennis - Welcome back from your vacation. It's been over 4 years since your last post. I'm glad that you're still dropping in on us.

Yes - I agree, that's horrible. But 10,000 a year less - by whatever awful means - does not alter my argument. China's prison population (around 1.6 million) is one-third less than the US - and it has about 4 times the U.S. population. Check Russia - about the same population as the US, but less than one-third the prisoner total of the US. (BTW- I think it's pretty easy to go to jail in Russia - ask Mr. Putin!) Check India - nearly 3 times the US population - one fifth the prison population.

Here's the chart - see for yourself. Highest to Lowest - Prison Population Total | World Prison Brief

No - no other country locks 'em down in numbers like the US. Hence the need for prisoner-accessible education. Other than that, I have nothing to add to the Nations comments, either.

Cat comment. Curiosity killed the cat.

Okay, so I dug deeper and now have some time sitting alone at home while waiting for childeren demanding candy.

This is from the syllabus rather than the abstraction of what is required.

As far as Greek and Hebrew go. Let's be honest. Most pastors learn just enough Greek to be extremely dangerous. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard bad sermons abusing Greek or Hebrew. I am at 15 (undergrad) and 12 (grad) credits of Greek language and translation and know it better than most pastors could ever hope to know it. Still work on it 15 years later. Grace School of Theology would not allow me any credit for Greek. So I passed on them as I am not in the mood to do anymore Greek. For Hebrew I am 6 undergrad and 6 graduate credits. Most pastors forget most of Greek within a year and Hebrew even faster. This past summer I took a CPE unit with one baptist in her last year, three episcopal, and five ELCA Lutherans. All who did not just finish Greek had already let it pass within a semester.
