I have searched all over for PhDs in film/media studies and I can't find anything that can be completed online in the continental United States. I'm really looking for any program that has to do with the study and criticism of social artifacts, mainly film and other textual products. I have a MA in English and have considered ODU's PhD in English, as this is the closest thing I can find to what I am looking for. Next runner up is Fielding's PhD in Media Psychology, but after further study this is more toward bridging psychological studies with the way we interact with media (i.e., devices and technology), and not really focused on discussing how, say, a book or movie or poster or campaign or something perpetuates harmful sexual stereotypes. Any ideas within the realm of social sciences and literary criticism are welcome and most appreciated. Thank you so much for your help.
PhD in Film and Film studies. Postgraduate distance learning courses - University of Birmingham I'm sure other UK Unis would have something along what you are seeking.
This one is a PhD in media and comms. Media and Communication Distance Learning PhD — University of Leicester
Thanks for your replies. I am looking for something that can be completed either 100% online OR has residencies within the continental United States. Thanks!
That is a great find at Melbourne, and the program looks wonderful. However, I do believe once you hit candidature you need to be living in Australia:
