It is nice to know that there is another online EE program available.

It is not ABET Accredited, but it is Regionally Accredited.

APUS.edu > BS in Electrical Engineering

Total tuition is $31,500 plus about $12,000 for lab stuff. Not bad for an RA degree though you might be able to beat it as an in-state resident student. The biggest caution, though, is the same as always...lack of ABET accreditation means qualifying for the Fundamentals of Engineering exam may be difficult. Not impossible but not easy.

That matters because there are a lot of engineering programs out there and the big employers of new engineers tend to recruit from just a few schools. APU isn't going to be one of those schools. So having the EIT certificate could be critical in getting that first job.

I was going to ask whether not being ABET accredited would cause problems if one wanted their PE license later on, but Lerner beat me to it. It seems like a pretty heavy career handicap. I know that most engineers never get their PE license, but going into your bachelors degree knowing that you will never be eligible, unless you redo your bachelors, seems to be a problem.

I wonder if any of the licensing boards would accept a non-ABET bachelors and an ABET masters for qualification.

Each state in the USA has its own criteria.
There is a listing available, it shows the requirements per state.

In some states if you have the right kind of experience, you don't need ABET engineering degree in order to write FE and , PE exams.
In other states Engineering non ABET degree holders may take the exams , based on longer experience and additional scrutiny.
There is one state that all you need the the right kind of experience and no degree at all. High School graduate all that is required.
The FE exam is hard. so it is always recommend to take it as soon as you cover these subjects in the university.
While the material is fresh in you mind.

You will need endorsement of P.E when applying for Licensing, so type of experience is important.
Better take ABET accredited program now and make it easier on your self in the future.

NCCES as of 2020 planing to increase the education requirement for P.E to the level of Masters in Engineering degree.

Interesting that Highschool graduate with approved Engineering experience of 12 years can take the exam even if they don't have the degree.

    3 years of design etc experience = 1 year college. 3 x 4 = 12.

Unless you do not to get Professional Engineering license; otherwise it would be a risk for having non-ABET accredited Electrical Engineering degree. Why would you want to take a risk, it is similar to non-ABA accredited J.D degree.

I think the difference is the industrial exemption. There are jobs that RA is sufficient.
Not that I promote a non ABET Engineering degree, I don't but it will have utility.
Also in many states is will be possible to get licensed.

Especially in our days , when there are 100 % DL Electrical Engineering ABET accredited degree available there is no excuse.

Maybe this program one day will apply for ABET accreditation. Some may argue at least its RA and not like NCU NA accredited.
