I'm having an extremely difficult time attempting to enter into TESC. I've done everything I'm supposed to do, but to no avail. I'll be 50 next month and have finally decided to continue my education, but this is making it virtually impossible. FAFSA received my info on 8/28/14 and has forwarded my info to them, have completed all other necessary paperwork, although TESC has nothing on me at all.

I've spoken to TESC several times, I've corresponded via email, but no one has been able to help. I'm actually on hold with them right now and 3 people have answered and no one can help me... this is just today. They said they haven't received my $75, my FAFSA, or the application to the school. I'm beside myself. I'm lost in the shuffle.

    Very sincerely,

It should be easy enough to check with your bank to see if they've cashed your check, or whatever method you used to pay the fee.

they are pretty good about sending emails thanking you for applying, "accepting" you into the school, etc. I think you should check back and be sure your $ was actually processed. Sometimes when a screen times out it doesn't get through. Something somewhere didn't happen. Look for confirmation numbers, your ID number, anything that would verify that you're officially in the system.

    Also, if I may...
I had a bunch of admin crap happen to me for the year+ that I was a student. Mix ups on where credits go, assigning classes to meet certain requirements, my financial aid getting messed up, deadlines being missed for registration, my advisor NEVER returning my messages, what else.... uhhh, several things. As I sat in my little house, this was the most frustrating thing in MY world. I was full of anxiety and stress over it. On more than 1 occasion, I seriously almost quit. I don't say that lightly- I was ready to send them a "kiss my grits" email.
Alllllll that said, it will all be worth it. If you allow THEM to put up a few roadblocks and you stop your path, you're only hurting yourself. Ask yourself if a grown person should be so easily shaken and distracted from the goal? These little annoyances are what separates you (today) and the rest of the people who get to hang their degree on the wall. In my opinion, much of college is just seeing how much crap you're willing to deal with in order to obtain your goals. This will not be the last screw up they make. You will have several more. Be ready for it.

    Cookderosa, Rebel100 and Kizmet,
Thank you all for your kind response to my momentary frustration. I found a caring soul within TESC who is following up on my situation. It appears that I have 2 different FAFSA's out there; one from when I was single and my most recent one so that was one of the things keeping me from being recognized. I cancelled my PIN affiliated with my maiden name, per FAFSA.

Although I don't qualify for a grant, I can get a student loan. How does this apply to portfolio assessments and tests since they say you must be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours per semester?

Here's what I found out about financial aid with regard to portfolio assessments, tests, etc. as it pertains to TESC:

Federal financial aid requires that 6 credits per term be taken. The courses must earn letter grades (A, B, C, etc.), not a Pass/Fail grade. The online and guided study courses at the college earn letter grades.

Portfolio assessments receive a Pass/Fail, so they are not covered under federal financial aid. TECEP exams are covered by federal financial aid only if you choose the Comprehensive Tuition Plan and also take 6 credits per term of online or guided study courses. If you choose the Enrolled Options or Per Credit tuition plans, the TECEP exams would not be covered because they are Pass/Fail.

TAG is a state grant that requires 12 credits per term be taken by a student.

By the way... they found me in the system and I can now determine my plan. It appears the CTP is what's for me.

TESC accepts credit from other colleges and from CLEP & DSST. By earning credits outside of TESC you can save a bunch of money.

Transfer credit and price shopping are the way to go. I can't imagine paying rack rate tuition at TESC, and I earned 2 degrees with them. Of my AA, I transferred in all 60 credits and of my BA, I transferred in 90ish.
