I'd like to know which one of you guys in the business world on this forum has a six sigma certification? I know this is not a business degree, but it is a business-related certification, so I think this should not be out of place on this forum. How do you know if you do an online class that it is legitimate?

I did an online class (free with great information) and downloaded a certificate. I went to a job interview with it and they were impressed and offered me a great job with good pay and awesome benefits!?! In fact, I am surprised by the interviews that I am getting now since I put this six sigma training and my recently acquired bachelor's degree on my resume. These companies never knew I was alive when I applied to them before. Go six sigma and higher education:trink26:!

Certifications offered by ASQ carry a lot of weight with employers and ASQ is certainly legitimate. Costs of certifications is reasonable.

I'm curious to what industry is offering you jobs based on six sigma. I work/consult in the aerospace industry and never hear six sigma mentioned. But a knowledge AS9100 is usually a positive.

Six Sigma is huge in healthcare right now, with Obamacare turning our 100+ year revenue model on its head, hospitals are learning how to get leaner to maximize profits so Six Sigma is in high demand right now.

Right now there's a real issue in industry with Six Sigma Certifications, as there are vast quality differences and some deplorable online offerings. Depending on what industry you're in, a Black Belt from a questionable source may not be acknowledged. Than again, I've witnessed some deplorable projects earn people their Black Belt even with respectable companies. ASQ is attempting to certify, to an extent, many of the better offerings.

Ian, I'm rather surprised that the aerospace industry generally isn't using Six Sigma as part of a Continuous Improvement program. The concept is engrained in most other forms of heavy industry and manufacturing.

I've mentioned it in the past, but I'll offer this again just in case some may have not seen it. There is no single body which accredits Six Sigma certifications, ASQ is probably the most widely recognized though. If you are trying to truly learn Six Sigma techniques, I highly recommend the Pyzdek Institute and ASQ (which I have no affiliation with either).

It should be noted that such a certification is gaining importance as of late (Top 15 Moneymaking Certifications For 2014 - Page: 13 | CRN) which may help with the culling of some of these 'less than spectacular' certification mills.

As was mentioned earlier, the abundance of these has lead to a lot of deplorable "black belts" being certified as of late.

    Hello!
I'm a Six Sigma Black Belt Consultant in healthcare. If you have any additional questions please PM me or ask here!

I have not been certified by ASQ, but I have internal company certification. Just like other jobs, experience has more weight than just training by itself. If you can combine certification with experience, you'll be in a great spot to advance. :)
