SAE site says its degrees are validated by Middlesex U. - a genuine UK Uni, with a campus a couple of miles from my boyhood home in England. If your diploma says Middlesex Uni on it, then you should have no great trouble getting a good evaluation of it in the US. No guarantees - NACES member evaluators all have differences - but the odds are pretty good.

BTW - would Middlesex U. be the name you couldn't remember?

I guess it is a Middlesex Uni degree, as I thought. From the site:

"The MA/MSc Professional Practice (Creative Media Industries) is awarded by Middlesex University, England. It is a fully accredited Masters Degree in the United Kingdom, and thus is widely recognised throughout the world where British degrees are respected and valued."

I thought SAE had to have a link with some Uni with legit degree-granting powers, or it wouldn't qualify for a .edu domain. It just didn't look like a pre-2001 Educause "grandfathering" situation. So - it should be "allowable" everywhere - subject to credential evaluation, of course.

    LMBO! Wow, that was harsh.

I feel the same way. Maybe UoP and schools like it were some of the only options over 10 years ago, but there have been hundreds to thousands of options the past several years. Whenever I hear someone say that UoP or a similar school was his/her only option, I think that they just chose the first school they saw on an advertisement. Either that or they just didn't like the admissions process at more traditional schools.

No, it was a trade school. I'm not even sure if it's still around since I can't find it.

Coursera offers free courses in music production, audio engineering, digital sound design, and music technology.

This school is right by me (I live in Phoenix and the campus is in Tempe). It's really popular here, and I have to say, the campus and staff and students are pretty great. Still pricey, but not as bad as some others. And again, it does have RA status, so you could do worse.

Sometimes I'll cite Full Sail as an example of a for-profit school that doesn't do everything people hate about for-profits. This doesn't mean that they don't do some of what people don't like about for-profits.

I give Full Sail credit for finding a relatively underserved niche for degree programs, staying close to that niche, and investing in what are apparently academically and practically strong programs on-campus and online.

Does this justify what Full Sail actually charges for a nationally accredited degree in entertainment media? In most cases no, probably not. In most cases I wouldn't actually recommend taking a program with Full Sail at the undergraduate level, certainly not if a student is price-sensitive to speak of.

I'd be warmer to Full Sail as a degree-completion option for an undergraduate student who (a) maxes out on transfer credit, hopefully lower-cost, (b) is also well grounded in, highly motivated in, and possessed of a good sense what they're getting into in, one of Full Sail's entertainment media fields, and (c) is unlikely to take a job or educational path where Full Sail's status as NA not RA would matter.

I'm also warmer to some of Full Sail's master's degrees. I kind of love the premise of their MS in Instructional Design and Technology.

I like what Foothill College, a CC in California, does in online courses and programs in music technology.

Don't be so harsh on FSU for its name.

From 1891-1920, a certain school was known as Throop University, then Throop Polytechnic Institute, then Throop College of Technology. In 1920 the name was changed to California Institute of Technology. Throop is pronounced Troop. I guess those early graduates felt like they were graduating from boot camp, that is TROOPS. :)

A Navy buddy of mine attended Fullsail Florida campus. He had a lot of late night labs in the recording engineering program.

Maybe the name plays better in other places . . .
    Universität Vollen Segeln
    Université Toutes Voiles Dehors
    Universita Vele Spiegatē

Wish I had got in on this thread sooner. I'm in my second month at Full Sail Univ. I'm doing the online option for Computer Animation. This will be my 3rd degree as I already have a BS in Manufacturing Tech and an MBA from UofP. The general education classes that weren't waived for me aren't that hard, but I'm not a first time student either.

As far the comments about UofP students not being good problem solvers, I would actually agree with that for most, but no all, of the students that come through there. Those of us that have a military leadership background should have no issues since we are trained to solve problems. With my USMC background my solutions tend to be more violent :AR15firing:

Back to Full Sail. I hate the name but whatever. I have enjoyed my first two classes and like how they do things for the online the students. They have weekly training sessions that allow you to interact with the teachers. The only problem with that is most are scheduled while I am at work so I end up watching the recorded session later.

I also like my new Mac Book Pro and all the expensive animation software that I now have for it. I'm not a fan of Apple but the Mac is pretty nice.

A friend of mine had a horrible experience with SAE online. Firstly, the program is very expensive and doesn't offer anything. SAE wanted to be paid right away and he agreed to pay. Last but not least, when the program ended, he didn't receive anything (no diploma/certificates etc.) It sounds like a scam.

The school is not accredited, and the .edu doman has been grandfathered (it was created in 1997), just like other unaccredited universities/colleges.

I checked the catalog of the school. They are not regionally accredited. I know two grads that cannot transfer their credits or degrees to local universities or community colleges. Buyer Beware. That is a lot of money to spend and not get maximum mileage from.

I just finished up my MBA with California Coast. Although CC is a DETC/Online school I still didn't do too bad with my MHA. I received a "kicker" so together with my MHA I received around 1047 per month.

So my question is, will using the Yellow Ribbon and Post 9/11 together are we still qualified to receive MHA and the book stipend?

BTW I have 13 months and 7 days left...this would be the perfect program for me!

    TIA

I just wanted to revive this thread to reflect Full Sail's inclusion on Princeton Review's list of top 25 schools for Game Design (number 24, DePaul ranks 25).

I don't know what I think of Full Sail. I feel like they are pretty pricey for an NA school. And I'm always skeptical of pricey NA schools which are trying to break you into heavily competitive job markets.

Buuuuuut, I keep finding positive reviews for them and any negative press seems to be outsiders lamenting about the fact that they are NA.

I'm also not a fan of college rankings, in general. But I have a friend from the Navy who recently emailed me about how he was working on his B.S. at FSU. He said he wasn't sure about the place but the Princeton Review ranking tipped the scale for him. So while rankings don't mean much to me, some people seem to use them.

I've always liked the offerings at Full Sail, but besides the name, the lack of RA and the fiercely expensive costs turn me off.
