This is not my field but I agree with Randell. It seems like every day we hear new stories of major security breaches. I was watching a TV show about a small bunch of guys who hacked into a lot of retail stores and stole credit card info and sold to people in eastern europe. They made millions of dollars. It's a serious business.

Seems like cyber security is the way to go now. I have absolutely no experience though would it be difficult finding a job with 0 experience i mean i understand that is what employers look for the most now but is there any entry level jobs you can do in cyber security?

    Thanks

That is serious wow! Thanks for responding! I also, have been seeing a lot of security breaches going on on the news. My husband actually works in cyber security and is government employed he absolutely loves it and he really recommends it but i didn't just want to take his view i wanted to see different opinions and what others would recommend since my husband has been doing it for a while now and am starting out of nothing so for someone like me with no experience i wont be as lucky in landing the job but it seems everyone agrees that cyber security is the way to go lol.

Maybe some others like TekMan will respond but I would assume looking at some certs like Security+ or Certified Ethical Hacker might help you get started. Have you considered volunteering to get some experience?

Cyber Security is the way to go, but it should not be your primary specialization because information security is too broad. And you will never satisfy with your prospect employers with only specializing Cyber Security.

    - Networking/Telecommunication Security
    - Software and Programming Security
    - System Security
    - Information and Management Security
    - Facility (Environment)/ Physical Security
    - Database Security, and etc..

For example, I am only aiming in Networking/Telecommunication Engineering. Cyber Security is a supplement into networking. In my Cyber Security, I need to know the following:
    - IPS/IDS
    - Securing a Network Device (i.e Router, Switch, Firewall)
    - Firewall implementation (1st generation, 2nd generation, 3rd generation, 4th generation)
    - DMZ

One thing about IT field, that your prospect employers expect you alot. But there is little when it comes to the position. Therefore, you always keep up with your own knowledge and technical skills. For example, having your own home lab. Learning about BackTrack an its tools.

If you start from fresh, I would recommend Software Engineering or Programming Development. Therefore, you might find a decent job by working from home. If you are unemployed, you can always develop your own software or apps to make money. I eventually head to that route as soon as I am done with my Doctorate at Nova Southeastern University. Also, I'll enroll into UDacity & Georgia Tech's Online Master of Computer Science program.

Right now, I am doing Cyber Security; but my primary role is researching vulnerabilities, mitigation, and assessment for systems, networking devices. I do not perform penetration testing because that is too intrusive.

Thank you so much for all the information! very very helpful! For my degree i have to choose one of these specializations from this list which are the ones CSU global offers. I was trying to see which one would benefit me most. My husband tells me cyber security is the way to go as well though. But i didn't think of it how you mentioned about it being broad since am not very knowledgeable ITwise so i am stuck not sure what i should do.But those are the only specializations offered in CSU Global the ones i mentioned.
